About This Pub

Oh, The Prince in Wood Green is one of those pubs that just warms your cockles from the get-go – it's got that perfect blend of cosy historic charm and a lively buzz that makes you want to linger. I've heard from mates who've raved about the food; it's not your run-of-the-mill pub fare, with standout roasts, pies, and even thoughtful options for vegetarians and those avoiding gluten, all made with top-quality ingredients that really shine through. Pair that with a solid lineup of local brews and wines, and you're in for a treat, especially if you're after something a bit different from the usual suspects. The team behind the bar are absolute gems, always up for a chat and bending over backwards to make events special, like turning a post-wedding bash into something memorable. On the flip side, it's worth noting that the opening times can be a bit muddled in the info floating about, so you might end up disappointed if you don't confirm first. And with its history of a few closures over the years, it might not be the most dependable spot for your weekly routine. All things considered, though, it's a solid choice for anyone in the area looking for a relaxed pint, a hearty meal, or just a place to unwind – I'd say give it a go if you're nearby, as the positives far outweigh the niggles!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely top-notch, with modern British dishes that cater brilliantly to vegetarians and gluten-free folks – it's fresh, flavourful, and a real step up from your average pub grub.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and go the extra mile, making you feel right at home, whether you're popping in for a quick pint or hosting a big gathering like a wedding celebration.
  • They've got a cracking selection of local beers and unique small-batch wines, perfect for trying something new while soaking up the relaxed, chilled-out vibe.
  • The atmosphere is lovely, with a historic Victorian building that adds real character, plus plenty of outdoor seating for enjoying a drink in the park when the weather's on your side.
Cons
  • There seems to be a bit of confusion around the opening hours, with some conflicting info that might leave you scratching your head – best to double-check before heading out.
  • It's had a rocky history with past closures, which could make it feel a tad unreliable if you're relying on it for regular visits.

I am so happy we hosted our post wedding celebrations for 20 people at our local pub: The Prince. The staff went above and beyond to make our celebrations so special. The food was absolutely incredible. We had many vegetarians and my nan was gluten free and Jonah made some of the best food I’ve tasted! The vegetarian sausage roll was immense! Before our wedding day Jonah talked through all the food options over the phone and was really lovely. Some of our family were unfortunately late to the celebrations because of an emergency, and the team even extended our private area beyond the allocated time, to ensure we could enjoy our wedding cake with them, when they arrived. Myself and my husband want to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone at The Prince for a really special day and hosting our wedding party.

Decided to treat ourselves after a walk through the Parkland trail and this hasn’t disappointed! Great selection of beers from local breweries, stunning atmosphere, and the food was just 10/10. We had the short rib and port pie which had a delicate flavour and everything was accompanied by a massive portion of roasted veggies (loved the hispi cabbage). Thanks for the wonderful roast, will definitely be back!

🚇 Wood Green 🍺 £6.50 Yes IPA The Prince is located in Wood Green in North London. The nearest Tube is Wood Green. This handsome Victorian pub was built in 1870 and was originally known as The Prince of Wales. The pub has been through a turbulent time in recent years with multiple closures due to greed and poor management. A local community group succeeded in having the pub listed as an ACV in November 2015 and today the pub is on a firm footing. This is pub is run by the same good people over at @smallbeern8 in Crouch End. This is a two-roomed pub that has a rustic and contemporary feel. The main bar area is ‘L’ shaped with lots of low level tables, a boarded floor, informative chalkboards and an array of eclectic artwork adorning the walls. The servery is a good size and has detailed columns on the front and back bar. To the left of the main bar is a dining area which has plenty of seating, an exposed brick wall and stools around drinking ledges. Outside are a number of barrels with stools for imbibing alfresco. The beer selection is excellent and offers six cask ales and fourteen keg options. Most of the beers on offer are from independent breweries both local and from around the Uk. I decided to keep it local and opted for a Yes IPA from @goodnessbrew , the brewery is literally a ten minute walk from here. I thoroughly enjoyed my pint, price point was above average. The food menu is elevated Gastro fayre and fittingly receives rave reviews, Roasts are available on a Sunday. I arrived just before 5pm on a sunny but chilly Saturday afternoon in March. The pub was busy with a local crowd and an upbeat atmosphere. The service was first class, the team were welcome, friendly and knowledgeable about the Taplist. The @n22prince is a much loved and well supported Wood Green local that offers a superb range of beers and food. It just goes to show what the power of community can do to help secure a pub’s future. This stunning and welcoming pub is a must visit if you’re in the area. 📅 1st March 2025 More London pub info @londonpubmap 🍻

Great place for drink. Relaxed nice chilled atmosphere. Didn't eat but enjoyed the Luna stout. Sat outside in the park. Really cool. Lots of seating and outside heaters.

Sunday roast is best I’ve ever had! Large table of 12 people - impeccable service from friendly team that made us all feel Immediately at home. We tried all the starters which were exceptional and not your usual pub fare - you can tell they’ve put effort into sourcing great produce. The roast is the best you’ll find in london - perfectly cooked meat, crispiest potatoes, and a ridiculously good croquette. I would have the sticky toffee pudding and home made ice cream for my death row meal
