About This Pub

Ah, PJ O'Connors Irish Sports Bar – what a gem in North London! From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, this place really hits the mark for a good old pub experience. Picture walking into a spot that's got that authentic Irish charm, with staff who are dead friendly and make you feel like part of the crowd straight away. The Guinness is poured to perfection and at prices that won't break the bank, like nabbing a pint for under a fiver, which is always a treat. Plus, they've got affordable grub on offer, such as pizza for just a fiver, and extras like pool tables and TVs showing the games, making it ideal for a laugh with friends on a Thursday night when things are buzzing. On the flip side, though, their website's a bit of a faff – I couldn't get it to load properly, so you might need to pop in or check elsewhere for the lowdown. And those operating hours? They're listed all over the place for Sundays, so it's probably best to confirm before you go, just in case. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're after a cosy, lively spot without the hefty price tag, but it might not suit if you're after something super quiet or easy to research online first. I'd say give it a try if you're in the area; it's got that feel-good factor that keeps people coming back for more.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Guinness is spot on and incredibly affordable, like grabbing a pint for just £4.70 – perfect for a casual catch-up.
  • It's got a really welcoming Irish atmosphere with friendly staff and a cosy vibe that makes you feel right at home.
  • Great selection of beers and even some cheap eats, like pizza for a fiver, plus fun extras like pool tables and flat-screen TVs for watching the match.
  • The place has a lively energy, especially on busier nights, with good prices overall – two pints under a tenner outside happy hour is a winner.
Cons
  • The website seems a bit unreliable; I had trouble accessing it, which might make it harder to check out the latest info before heading over.
  • Operating hours look a tad confusing with multiple listings for Sundays, so it's worth double-checking to avoid any surprises.
  • It's tucked away in Wood Green, which is brilliant if you're local but might not be the easiest spot for folks from further afield.

🚇 Wood Green 🍺 £4.70 Guinness PJ O’Connor’s is located in Wood Green, in the Borough of Haringey, North London. The nearest Tube station is Wood Green on the Piccadilly Line. This pub is located on the site where the oldest pub in Wood Green once stood. The Three Jolly Butchers was built in 1781 as a coaching inn. It was rebuilt in 1900 and renamed The Jolly Butchers Hotel. In the 1970s, the pub was demolished and replaced by a four-storey office building with a pub in the bottom right corner, council planners, eh? In 2019, PJ O’Connor’s was established, following on from Monaghan’s Tavern. This is a one bar pub that has a compact no frills classic Irish pub feel. The decor consists of Faux brick walls, Irish memorabilia everywhere, pool table, dartboard, and TVs at every angle. There is plenty of seating throughout, I loved seeing the bar stools full of punters. The beer lineup features a solid selection of well-known keg favourites. Since it’s an Irish pub, I had to go for the Guinness—and honestly, I couldn’t fault it. Price-wise, it came in under a fiver, which is great. The food option here is Pizza, and there are plenty of Taytos on hand if you’re feeling peckish. I arrived around 5:30 p.m. on a pleasant Saturday afternoon in March. The pub was packed with a mix of punters, and the Irish community was well represented. The atmosphere was upbeat and lively, with a welcoming feel throughout. The service was spot-on—the lady who served me was lovely and had everything under control. The pub shows a wide variety of sports—horse racing, GAA, rugby, Premier League… and, on this visit, Claudia Winkleman. Because nothing says “Saturday sport” like Strictly Come Dancing. From the outside, this might not be the most beautiful boozer I’ve ever clapped eyes on—but that’s not what this pub is about. It’s about community, the craic, and keeping you entertained. I loved visiting this old-school drinking den—there aren’t many like it left. So if you’re ever over this side of town, make sure you pay @pj_o_connors a visit. ☘️ 📅 1st March 2025 More London pub info on socials @londonpubmap 🍻

Ah this is the spot. Not here often enough. Was a few in when I headed for one. Got two as the price was that good. Worth a visit. Guinness is to perfection.
