About This Pub

Ah, The Potters Wheel – it's one of those neighbourhood pubs in Newcastle that you hear about and think, 'That sounds like a right nice spot for a catch-up.' From the reviews, it's clear the staff are absolute gems, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels welcome, which gives it that homely feel we all love. The beers are reasonably priced too, and there are tales of lively evenings with live music and a good selection of ales that keep things buzzing. But, let's be honest, it's not all pints and cheers; some mates have mentioned it's lost its dog-friendly charm, which used to be a big draw, and the food that's been stopped has left a gap for those who enjoyed the Greek dishes. Overall, it's still worth popping in if you're after a relaxed pint, though you might want to check if it's back to its best or if those changes have stuck around – it's all about managing expectations for a balanced night out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and always go the extra mile to make you feel right at home, which really adds to the cosy vibe.
  • You get great value on the beers and drinks – it's a proper local spot where you won't break the bank for a pint.
  • The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with live music and events that make for a lively night out.
  • It's got that family-run charm, with mentions of delicious Greek cuisine and a selection of ales that hit the spot.
Cons
  • It's no longer dog-friendly, which has disappointed some regulars who used to bring their furry friends along.
  • The food service has stopped, so you might miss out on those tasty meals that folks raved about before.
  • There have been some changes with the management that have left a few people feeling it's not quite the same as it used to be.

Not dog friendly. I used to spend good money here, but not anymore. It used to be a great place under old management.

I recently visited The Potter's Wheel Pub in Sunniside and had a delightful experience. Sab, the young owner, along with his family, creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. His sister runs a charming cafe, while his dad impresses with delicious Greek cuisine. The beer selection is pleasing, and the friendly staff adds to the overall positive vibe. A great spot for a relaxing time with good company.

Really nice pub, there was a good ale but not much choices. It's a dog friendly bar and met new really nice people and couple dogs too. The music was good and the barman Russ was very friendly. Had a great time.
