About This Pub

Ah, The Points in Belfast – it's one of those places that really pulls you into the heart of Irish culture, isn't it? Picture this: you're settled in with a pint of Guinness poured just right, surrounded by the sounds of live traditional music that plays every single night, drawing you in for a proper singalong or a toe-tap. The whiskey and ale choices are brilliant, offering something for everyone whether you're a seasoned drinker or just dipping your toes in. That open fire adds such a cosy touch, making it feel like a proper hideaway on a damp evening, and from what I've gathered from chats with others, the staff are usually spot on with their service, keeping things flowing smoothly. It's got that spacious layout too, with nooks for groups or a spot at the bar if you're up for mingling. But, let's be honest, it's not all rosy – there've been a few grumbles about one manager being a bit sharp with folks, which can sour the experience if you're unlucky enough to cross paths. And the women's toilets? Well, they're a bit of a letdown, all broken and grubby, which takes the shine off things a tad. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.4, it's clear most people have a whale of a time here. If you're heading out for some authentic Irish craic, I'd say give it a go, but maybe keep an eye on the time of week and have a backup plan for any off moments. All in all, it's a solid spot that does the traditions proud, with just a few rough edges that could use polishing.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The live music is absolutely fantastic, with traditional Irish and folk tunes playing seven nights a week – it's a real highlight that gets everyone in the mood for a singalong.
  • They've got an impressive selection of whiskeys and ales that really capture that authentic Irish spirit, perfect for anyone wanting to explore a bit of history in their glass.
  • The atmosphere is wonderfully cosy, especially with that open log fire going – it's just the spot for a relaxed chat and a pint on a chilly evening.
  • The bar staff are generally friendly and quick with service, making it easy to grab a drink and enjoy the vibe without any fuss.
  • It's a spacious place with plenty of seating options for different group sizes, so whether you're with mates or flying solo, there's room to make yourself at home.
  • Prices are spot on for what you get, offering good value without breaking the bank, which is always a win for a night out.
Cons
  • There have been a few reports of rude behaviour from some staff, like one manager who was a bit over the top with customers – it can put a dampener on the fun.
  • The women's bathrooms are in a shocking state, with broken bits and dirt everywhere, which is a real shame and something that needs sorting.
  • It can feel a bit quiet on weeknights, like Mondays, so if you're after a buzzing crowd, you might want to plan for the weekends instead.

In all fairness, we went on a monday night around 9 p.m. it was very slow and we expected that. Loved the ruggedness of the place. The live music was fantastic. Women's bathrooms were a disaster, like toilet lids broken in pieces and very dirty !

I travel a lot for work, I experience bars in countless countries throughout the year. This bar will be one of my favourites for a long time. - More whiskey choices than you can fathom. - Fun staff who really know how to pour a pint of Guinness. - The music quality is just insanely good. - Great location for grabbing some fast food on the way home.

The female Bar Manager was unbelievably rude to us. She told us off for whistling in appreciation of the music after a song ended - it was so ridiculous, like a referee yelling at fans for celebrating a goal. Everyone around us seemed shocked by her behaviour. Then she took it even further by refusing to serve us. When I tried to reason with her, she had me kicked out. Apparently, you're only allowed to enjoy the music if you just sit there emotionless like statues, or else you risk her wrath. We were in a big group, and everyone agreed, along with the other customers near us, that her behaviour and attitude was awful. The place was pretty dead, even for a Friday night, if anything we were actually creating a bit of atmosphere. I was happy to leave by that point anyway because the place is freezing, even with the fire lit. There are much better bars elsewhere in Belfast that are warm and more welcoming. Avoid.

Lovely pub, nice beer. Open log fire made it a very cosy place. Wasn't very busy when I popped in for a pint, but I could see they do have a good following. Excellent selection of spirits on the back bar.

This is a nice spacious pub and the live music on a Friday night provided a great evening out. All the bar staff are friendly and quick with the service and there’s various seating options for different groups sizes as well as chairs at the bar itself. Prices are good and there’s an impressive range of drink options - a great place.
