About This Pub
Ah, The Pig and Butcher – what a spot it is, tucked away in Islington with its rich history dating back to the 1800s. I've got to say, it's one of those places that really hits the mark on food; their daily changing menu pulls in the freshest produce from local markets, and everything from the scotch eggs to the Sunday roasts is just spot on – think crispy outsides, plump insides, and flavours that linger. The team behind the bar and in the kitchen are proper gems, always up for a chat and making sure you're looked after. Plus, their wine list is a treat, with a mix of classics and surprises that pair beautifully with the meals. On the flip side, it's no secret that this place is a favourite, so it fills up quick as you like, and I've heard from a few mates that getting through on email for bookings can be a bit of a wait. When it's busy, the service might not be as snappy, which can put a dampener on things if you're in a rush. All in all, it's a brilliant choice for a relaxed catch-up or a hearty meal, but I'd recommend popping in midweek if you can to avoid the crowds – trust me, once you're there, you'll see why it's so popular.

Great Sunday roast, but very busy definitely need to book in advance. The food is delicious and the staff are friendly and helpful. The one vegan option is really good as well, could do with giving more gravy.
We went for the Sunday roast, and it was great. We enjoyed everything we ate.
The only downside was the service — it was really slow. It was very crowded, so it took quite a while to get the attention of the staff.
We planned for a small town hall wedding with just our witnesses and our family decided to join in from abroad, so we needed somewhere special for a small family gathering.
We communicated via email to choose menus and confirm the booking and although the email communication was very slow and it took several emails to resolve all queries, we would repeat again and again for all our celebrations.
We had to choose from one of the set menus and of course, we chose the one with the Beef Wellington and it did not disappoint. Most of the guests came from France and Spain and they have very high standards when it comes to food, specially meat. They all left saying it was one of the best food experiences they had in a while. The scallops were melting in the mouth, the wellington was superb and the right cooking, the fish was fresh and the vegetarian was spot on. I didn't manage to get to the desserts but everyone had high praise.
The staff was very attentive, nice and accommodating and we couldn't be more thankful.
The Pig and Butcher is a lovely restaurant with a lovely ambiance, the staff and waiter are all very friendly and attentive, and the food is absolutely delicious.
The scotch egg was perfect, crispy on the outside and plump on the inside, with a vibrant orange runny yolk and a touch of flaky salt. For my main course, I had the pork belly, which was also perfect. The skin was super crispy, the meat was juicy and the layers of fat between them were delicious. I loved the abundance of vegetables and the potatoes on the side.
this was a lovely pub. It was completely booked out which is an indication of how good it is, the atmosphere was great. It was a very light pub which meant that we didn’t mind sitting inside on such a nice day. We got the scotch egg to start, this was sensational - without a doubt one of the best I’ve ever tried. We then got the Sunday roast, I got the porcetta. Warning, on a Sunday the roast is the only option to get for mains, so if you wanted to eat something else I’d come another day of the week. The roast was great, everything was done really well and it was a very generous portion, I thoroughly enjoyed it. If I was being highly critical I think the roast potatoes could’ve been fluffier. I got the house white and it was delicious. A great pub!
