About This Pub

You know, when I think about The Angelic in Islington, it's got this real charm that makes it a go-to for a good night out. The food is what really wins me over – those classic pub dishes are fresh and full of flavour, perfect for sharing with mates over a pint. I love how they've kept that historical feel from its days as the George IV, with the high ceilings and all, and the outdoor terrace is just the ticket on a nice day. The team behind the bar are an absolute delight, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly. On the downside, it does tend to get a bit noisy when things pick up, which might not be ideal if you're hoping for a quiet catch-up. And from what I've heard from a few regulars, it's not quite as cosy as it used to be, so you might want to pop in during off-peak hours if that's your thing. All in all, it's a solid choice for a meal and drinks in the area – just keep an eye on the crowd and you'll have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think delicious pub classics like fish and chips or a hearty Sunday roast, all made with fresh, quality ingredients.
  • The staff are brilliant; they're friendly, efficient, and really make you feel at home, which adds a lovely touch to the whole experience.
  • There's a fantastic selection of beers on tap and some cracking cocktails, so it's easy to find something to suit your taste.
  • The space is generous with high ceilings, a great terrace for outdoor seating on sunny days, and even a bit of historical charm from its past as the George IV.
Cons
  • It can get a tad noisy, especially when it's bustling, which might put you off if you're after a peaceful chat.
  • Some folks say it's lost a bit of its cosiness over time, so it might not feel as intimate as other local spots.
  • If it's packed, you might struggle to get a table or a quiet corner, making it less ideal for a relaxed visit.

Nice pub just a short walk from Angel Station. It’s a reasonably large space, split across two floors, and with some good outdoor seating space for nice summer day. They have a good selection of beers on tap, and they serve classic pub food, all pretty good. It is a good place some fish and chips on a Friday, or Sunday roast. The service is nice and friendly, making the a very nice place to frequent.

Used to be a lot more cosy and nice, but still a decent pub in the area even if more noisy than it used to be. Best thing about it is the toilets and the little fountain they have. Worth popping in and staying if it’s quiet, otherwise it’s worth moving on somewhere else.

The current incarnation/ownership is better than it was a few years ago, which is when I was last here. We came for Sunday lunch. It was full (and the Six Nations was on), but the Italian manager (I think his name was Cosmos) somehow had time for everyone while being really efficient. Good fish and chips. I'll come against

One of the best pubs I've been in UK! Amazing staff, super food, very nice decoration! The people who work there are amazing, super helpful, very easy going and funny! We tried veggie roasty, fish and chips burger and desserts! We loved everything and super lucky to have our last lunch in UK before leaving :)

Stumbled across The Angelic today and what a great find. We really fancied a roast but hadn’t booked anywhere and it was delicious. Great value for money, especially for Angel, big portions and super tasty - didn’t take pics of the dessert as we devoured so rapid but the brownie was 10/10. The only tiny downside was not being told things that weren’t available when we sat down, but that’s just because we got our hopes up about the crab tacos, as it’s a fab menu. We had the haddock croquettes instead and our daughter wants to go back to have them again! Very family friendly, shows footy and peng food. Will be going back for sure.
