About This Pub

You know those pubs that just make you feel like you've stepped into a friend's living room? That's exactly what The Foxglove feels like to me. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, it's a real standout in Islington for being so dog-friendly – it's one of those places where you can pop in with your pooch and not worry about a thing. The food is another highlight; those Sunday roasts come highly recommended, with massive portions that leave you feeling properly chuffed, and they've got some cracking vegetarian choices that show they've thought about everyone. The team there seems top-notch too, always up for helping out with events or just making your night smoother. On the downside, the kitchen doesn't stay open all the time, so if you're after a meal, you'll need to check the schedule first to avoid disappointment. And because it's so popular, it can get a bit packed, which might not suit if you're after a quiet pint. All in all, it's a solid spot for a good laugh with friends, but I'd say it's worth planning ahead to make the most of it – honest, balanced advice from one pub enthusiast to another!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's an absolute gem for dog lovers, with a welcoming atmosphere that makes you and your furry friend feel right at home
  • The food is spot on, especially those hearty Sunday roasts with generous portions and thoughtful vegetarian options that really hit the spot
  • The staff are wonderfully friendly and attentive, always quick to respond and make your visit memorable
  • It has a cosy, homely vibe with a working fireplace, perfect for a relaxed evening or catching up with mates
  • They're brilliant for events, like private gatherings or even something fun like a silent disco – they handle it all with ease
Cons
  • The kitchen hours can be a bit restrictive, so you might have to plan your visit around when they're serving food
  • It tends to get quite busy, especially on weekends, which could mean a wait or the need to book in advance

We hosted a private event at the Foxglove to celebrate our wedding with friends, and had the best experience possible. Kimberly was very open to our plans (a silent disco, a disco ball, and showing a video to guests on the projector), and was quick to respond to any email. The pub itself is brilliant - cosy, authentic and with a lovely patio area out back. The beers on top are also great with a mixture of well known brands and quirky alternatives (I recommend the nectar one). Food was top notch - the 50 guests all raved about the quality and quantity of food. All in all - not bad at all if you want a cool pub in the Angel Islington area.

Came for a post-half marathon Sunday roast meal and my lord the portion sizes were generous ❤️ The roast was gold and the service good, would definitely recommend coming here for a wholesome & hearty feed.

Food: Went for a Sunday roast and was pleasantly surprised by the vegetarian options! They had a butternut squash AND a veggie Wellington roast - I opted for the Wellington and was happy with my choice! I was told the filling is made from tofu, beetroot, and nuts- it looked very similar to meat (though didn’t taste like it) & was very tasty! The portions were hearty & large, and the value felt fair for the veggie option which isn’t often the case! Ambiance: The pub is cozy with its fireplace and dark wood, but one of the guys working there was especially snarky & pretty rude to our table which is why I had to knock a star. They’re dog friendly and took on a booking for a large group

Love this cosy dog friendly pub, has a fantastic range of beers, wines and cocktails, lovely food options and honestly, it feels like a home away from home. Everyone who works there is always so lovely and welcoming. It has lovely regulars (and their dogs) and hosts great socials. Definitely highly recommended! UPDATE a year on (17th July 2023): Yesterday I discovered they now also do the, honest to god, best Vegan Sunday Roast I've ever had (see pictures attached). It was epic! So so so good! Staff even said to me that the vegan roast was their favourite roast even though they eat meat! The Wellington filling looked like meat, felt like meat and tasted like meat but was actually made from beetroot (though didn't taste like beetroot which is impressive in itself), nuts and a bunch of other stuff. Honestly I'm salivating at the thought of it now 🤤 absolutely delicious!
