Have been many times, mainly for the food as it’s always delicious for a fair price. The atmosphere is nice and staff always friendly. Nice to sit inside in winter and outside for summer too.
Preface your visit with the fact this is a pub first that sells food in the back room, between the bar and the function room. Our visit was loud and food certainly felt like an afterthought, which is a shame for a talented chef. The staff dealing with service was not professionally dressed and was essentially running around trying to do every task, which felt a shame.
The fried starters were relatively well seasoned and good in taste however they were straight from the oil to the plate. They needed a drain/rest. The difference in the quality takes a big hit missing this step.
The 20oz steak on the bone had a brilliant sear. Seasoning was on the shy side and, with a piece of meat that big, being generous with seasoning is a staple. Medium rare requested and two thirds of the meat was cooked with a well put together wire to wire finish. The third along the bone however was rare, close to blue. Closer attention to the arroser at the bone would have elevated this higher. The chips for the meal left a fair bit to be desired, a rest out of the frier and some seasoning (salt, pepper and thyme) would have made all the difference.
Visited for the first time, a nice traditional pub with easy parking.
Received a really friendly welcome.
Great selection of real ales.
Food quality is fantastic, all home cooked to an extremely high standard.
Just had a very enjoyable evening at the Pied Bull, eaten far too much but with such good food at great value it's hard not to! Thursday night is gourmet burger night although the standard menu is still available. Choose your burger, veggie, lamb, beef or chicken. Choose your fries, your sauce all for £5 and then add extra toppings for 50p each bacon, stilton, cheddar, onion rings etc and decide whether to add an extra burger, beef chilli or pulled pork for an extra £1.25... bargain!! It really is delicious and filling. We've been to Pie night on a Monday too and have been equally impressed with the quality of food. Can't fault it, nice pint too. Was a bit chilly as the heating had broken down but that sort of thing can't be helped. Nice pub, food, beer and staff.
This was my first visit and it most certainly will not be my last. The menu was perfectly formed, with just enough options. The service was spot on and the waitress was very helpful and friendly. After ordering, the food arrived within about 20 minutes. I ordered a Steak and Stilton pie, with chips and mushy peas, as Mondays are pie night. The portion was generous and the food cooked to perfection, as everything was homemade. The steak was lovely and soft, with just enough Stilton as to not overpower it. After finishing my main course, I ordered bread and butter pudding, with cream and custard! Whilst the portion was just enough, the bread was not sufficiently cooked, and therefore was not crisp, the taste of it was good. The pricing of the meal was very reasonable for the excellent quality of the food. Two main pie dinners came to £14 and all the deserts were under £4 each. The decor of the pub is modern, mixed with an older style cottage- it works really well. I really recommend a visit. Thanks to the staff at the Pied Bull Inn for a most enjoyable evening.
