About This Pub

Ah, the Jolly Farmers – it's one of those hidden gems you stumble upon and think, 'Why haven't I been here sooner?' Tucked away in the National Forest near Shepshed, it's got this warm, traditional vibe that just draws you in, with a log-burning stove and comfy spots for a proper chat over a pint. The real ales are brilliant, always well-kept and full of character, and the food? Well, their Thursday pie nights and Sunday lunches are absolute winners – think homemade pastries and roasts that leave you satisfied. The team behind the bar are dead welcoming too, making it feel like you're catching up with old mates. But, to be fair, I've heard a whisper or two about the kitchen not always looking its best, which is a bit of a letdown when the grub's otherwise so good. All in all, it's a top spot for a relaxed outing, especially if you're local or fancy a countryside escape, but maybe pop in for a drink first if you're unsure about eating.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The real ales are spot on – a great selection of well-kept draught beers and ciders that really hit the mark for any beer enthusiast.
  • Their food is a real treat, with homemade pies on Thursday nights and delicious Sunday roasts that folks rave about, including massive Yorkshire puddings.
  • It's got that cosy, welcoming atmosphere with a log-burning stove and comfortable seating, making it perfect for a relaxing evening.
  • The staff are friendly and make you feel right at home, plus it's dog-friendly and ideal if you're out for a walk in the National Forest.
  • Theme nights like fish nights add a fun twist, offering fresh, quality ingredients cooked to order for a bit of variety.
Cons
  • There have been some concerns about kitchen hygiene from a few comments, which is a shame as it might put some off trying the food.
  • It could feel a bit out of the way for those not local, being tucked away on the edge of the forest, so planning ahead might be needed.

Lovely old fashioned pub, nice for a drink. They need to keep the kitchen door closed or tidy it and have a good clean. it looked dirty, I wouldn't eat out of it. What a shame.
