About This Pub

Ah, The Phoenix – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot after a wander around Buckingham Palace. From what I've gathered from the buzz online and those glowing reviews, it's got this charming, cosy feel with beautifully designed spaces that make you want to linger. The food stands out a mile; think crispy fish and chips or hearty sausages that pair perfectly with their impressive beer and cocktail selection, especially those summer spritzes on the roof terrace – pure bliss on a warm evening. The staff are genuinely friendly, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which really adds to the experience. On the flip side, though, it's worth noting that the upstairs loos can be a bit nippy in the colder months, and being in such a touristy area, it does get packed, so you might have to queue or book ahead. Overall, it's a solid choice for a pint and a bite, with that classic British pub charm that keeps people coming back, but just keep an eye on the weather and the crowds for the best visit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The location is absolutely spot on, right near Buckingham Palace and Victoria Station, making it a perfect pit stop after sightseeing or before heading out.
  • The food is top-notch, especially the fish and chips – I've heard from mates that it's some of the best around, with tasty traditional dishes and inspired shareable snacks.
  • They've got a brilliant selection of drinks, like refreshing spritzes and Pimm's Fizz, perfect for enjoying on the roof terrace or in the pub garden on a sunny day.
  • The service is warm and friendly; servers like Marius really make you feel welcome, adding that personal touch to your visit.
  • The atmosphere is cosy and well-designed, with bookable spaces for parties or intimate gatherings, and the outdoor areas are a lovely escape in good weather.
Cons
  • The toilets upstairs can get a bit chilly in winter, so you might want to wrap up if you're popping up there.
  • With its prime spot, it can get quite busy, especially with tourists, which might mean a wait for a table or a spot on the terrace.
  • The operating hours seem a tad inconsistent in the info available, and if it's listed as closed sometimes, it could be a hassle for spontaneous visits.

Recent Reviews

We were a group of seven — my family of four and our dear friends from the UK — and we visited The Phoenix Pub after a lovely walk from Buckingham Palace. My friend’s husband had done his research and found this pub based on stellar Google reviews, especially for their fish and chips. It was also my first ever pub experience, so my friend was especially excited to share that moment with me. At first, we picked a cozy corner table downstairs since it was easier to manage with three little ones. But while my friend and husband went to find the restrooms, they discovered a whole upper level with much more open space and even some patio seating. So we moved upstairs and gave the kids their own table while the adults enjoyed a separate one nearby — it gave us all a little breathing room and a chance to relax and chat. The bartenders were extremely kind and welcoming. We placed our orders at the bar, and everything was brought to our table shortly after. I went up to pay — again — but my generous and clever friend had already told them she was covering it. The bartender smiled and walked over with the card reader to *her* instead of me. This has now become a bit of a theme on this trip — she’s incredibly kind and simply would not let us pay. For the kids, we ordered three portions of fish and chips. My friend’s husband went for the Sunday roast beef, and my friend and I both got the fish and chips as well. When my friend mentioned her severe shellfish allergy, the bartender was so considerate — he made sure her meal would be prepared in separate oil. She told me later how rare it is to find a place that goes to that level of care, and how much she appreciated being able to enjoy fish and chips without worry. My husband wasn’t feeling great, so he just had a few bites from my plate. My older daughter, on the other hand, was loving it — she kept coming over and taking bites of fish from mine too, even though she had her own. That’s how good it was. The roast was hearty and well-enjoyed by my friend’s husband, and the fish and chips were crispy, flavorful, and comforting — everything I imagined a real pub meal would be. But beyond the food, it was the atmosphere and the exceptional service that really stood out. The Phoenix Pub gave us such a warm, memorable experience. The staff were thoughtful, the food was excellent, and the company made it all even more special. I'm so glad this was my first pub — I’ll remember it fondly.

Lovely pub with a great selection of inspired shareable snacks and traditional food. Loved the Pimm’s Fizz. Friendly bar service and outdoor terrace seating in nice weather. A short stroll from Buckingham Palace or Victoria Station.

The fish and chips were perfectly crispy and flavorful—some of the best I've had in a long time. The beer selection was impressive, and the one I chose paired beautifully with the meal. What really made the visit exceptional was the service. Our waiter, Marius, was phenomenal—attentive, friendly, and made us feel genuinely welcome. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for great food and outstanding service!

A very nice British pop food. We tried the fish and chips and sausage dish was nice. The atmosphere was so nice, cozy and well designed. If you visiting in winter, wear a warm coat before heading to toilets upstairs.
