About This Pub
Ah, the Bag O'Nails – it's one of those pubs that feels like a proper London gem, tucked away near Buckingham Palace with roots stretching back to 1775. I have to say, it's got that warm, inviting atmosphere that makes you want to settle in for a pint and a chat, especially if you're after a taste of traditional British pub life. The food's generally a winner; think crispy fish and chips or a juicy burger that pairs brilliantly with a cold cider or beer – and they've got options for vegetarians and vegans too, which is always a plus. Plus, being dog-friendly and family-oriented means it's flexible for all sorts of get-togethers, and their specials, like seasonal dishes or Pride events, add a fun twist. But let's be honest, it's not all roses; I've heard tales of dodgy batter on the fish that might leave you wishing for better quality control, and some staff seem a bit too business-like without the friendly banter you'd hope for in a pub. Oh, and keep an eye on the facilities – a clean-up might be needed now and then to keep things up to standard. Overall, it's a solid spot for a relaxed evening, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and maybe skip it if you're after something flawless.
Pros and Cons

-
The food is a real highlight, with classics like fish and chips and burgers coming out fresh and tasty, especially if you're in the mood for hearty pub grub that hits the spot.
-
Service can be spot on when it's good, with staff making you feel welcome and even letting you sample a few beers – it's those little touches that make a visit memorable.
-
It's super family-friendly and dog-friendly, so you can pop in with the kids or your furry friend, plus they've got WiFi and space for functions, making it versatile for different occasions.
-
They've got some fun specials and events, like Pride celebrations and seasonal menus, which add a nice buzz and give you a reason to keep coming back.
Cons
-
Food quality can be hit or miss; some folks have had issues with the batter on dishes like fish and chicken, suggesting the oil might not always be up to scratch, which is a shame for a pub classic.
-
Service isn't consistently friendly – a few experiences mentioned staff who seemed more focused on the job than on chatty banter, leaving things feeling a bit flat.
-
Hygiene in the facilities, like the women's toilets, has been called out as poor in some reviews, which could put a damper on an otherwise enjoyable evening.
-
The place is listed as currently closed in some data, so it might be worth double-checking before heading over, as that could disrupt plans for a spontaneous visit.

The hubs and I walked in here on our last night in London. Order at the bar. We each had a cider. He had the pea and mint soup and I had the crab pot. Both starters were good. He had a cheeseburger and I had fish and chips. We both enjoyed our meal. Seems like a nice place to hang out, have a drink, and grab something to eat. Give it a try!
Our first order of business: classic English fish and chips, paired with a proper draft beer. This pub offered a cozy, authentically English atmosphere. We also tried some duck, the flavour of it, was really good.
Was a 'must do' on our visit from NZ to London.
The batter on the fish and the chicken was awful - oil passed its use by date I'd say.
Staff were there to do a job only. No smiles or friendly banter.
Woman's toilet was abhorrent. Poop all over one toilet seat and lid. Advised a staff member who appeared annoyed I mentioned it.
Seating was broken.
Poor experience for us.
Such good food and good service! The fish and chips were great. They let me taste a few beers too. Loved it
We wanted a pub experience and found this place after visiting Buckingham Palace. Impressed by the service and the feeling that you are so welcomed. Nothing beats pub grub washed down with a pint. Good feeling. Do give this place a go.
