Park Tavern, 19 New Rd, Kingston upon Thames KT2 6AP

About This Pub

Ah, The Park Tavern – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local hideaway, established way back in 1868 and still run by the same family, which gives it that genuine, heartfelt touch. I have to say, what really stands out is their fantastic range of ales; whether it's the classics like Young's Ordinary or some unexpected guests, it's all kept in top nick by their experienced team. Pair that with reasonable prices and a cracking atmosphere where you can settle in for a good natter, and it's easy to see why folks rave about it. The back garden is another winner for those nicer days, and if you're into sports, they've got the screens sorted for rugby or footie with a real sense of excitement. On the flip side, though, if you're hoping for a full meal, you'll be out of luck – it's mostly just bar snacks, so you might need to plan ahead if hunger strikes. And being a smaller spot, it can fill up quickly during the big games, which is great for the vibe but not so much if you're after space. Overall, it's a solid choice for anyone wanting that authentic pub experience in Kingston, with its family-friendly setup until early evening and even a nod to well-behaved dogs – just remember to embrace the local charm and you'll have a brilliant time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The selection of real ales is absolutely spot on – they've got a great mix of regulars and surprises that keep things exciting.
  • It's got such a warm and friendly atmosphere, perfect for popping in for a chat and feeling right at home.
  • Prices are really reasonable, so you can enjoy a pint without worrying about the wallet.
  • The back garden is a lovely spot for a drink outdoors, especially on a sunny day.
  • They're brilliant for watching sports, with big screens and a real buzz during matches.
Cons
  • Food options are pretty limited, just some snacks rather than a proper meal if you're after something substantial.
  • It can get quite cosy during big events, meaning it might feel a bit squished if you don't get there early.
  • The strong local vibe is charming, but it might not be everyone's cup of tea if you're looking for something more cosmopolitan.

A lovely pub with plenty of character. Great selection of beers and reasonably priced. Atmosphere was pleasant, but gave a very 'local' vibe.

A gorgeous, brilliantly camouflaged pub on New Road, close to the south side of Richmond Park. An individual pub with cask ales far outnumbering keg offerings. Wonderful service from the staff and good prices. A pub, certainly worth the hunt. A delightful place for a beer.

Brilliant local independent family run, proper old skool pub for drinkers. I'm lucky to live right opposite. Great atomosphere, always friendly. Nice seating area at the front. Very reasonable prices. Try it out! There is no food here, but some snacks and small bites sometimes. Now has a nice garden area at the back.

Great little pub. Good value for money, £5.50 for a pint of Stella Artois. Service is very friendly. I’ll definitely come back.
