About This Pub

Ah, The Albert – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper British gem, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, it's got this relaxed, beautiful setup both inside and out, making it brilliant for a sunny day pint or a cosy evening. The staff are always up for a chat and get things moving quickly, and the food? Well, it's a winner – whether it's a solid burger, a hearty roast, or even the veggie options that get thumbs up. It's spacious too, so gathering with mates is a doddle, and that car park is a real plus for easy access. But, let's keep it real, it's not the cheapest spot in town, so you might want to save it for when you're splashing out a bit. Plus, from a few stories I've heard, if you're planning something bigger like a birthday bash, it might not always hit the mark – there've been tales of letdowns post-refurb or the occasional puzzling dish detail. Still, with an overall solid rating, it's worth a visit for a good time, just go in with your eyes open and you'll likely have a cracking experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is lovely and relaxed, making it a perfect spot for a laid-back Sunday or summer evening with plenty of seating inside and out.
  • Friendly staff who are quick and attentive, ensuring you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • The food is spot on – think yummy burgers, roasts, and even great veggie options that keep everyone happy.
  • It's spacious and welcoming, ideal for groups or a casual catch-up, with a convenient car park to boot.
  • Overall, it's a traditional British pub that delivers on that cosy, community feel with delicious grub.
Cons
  • It can be a tad pricey, so if you're watching the pennies, it might not be the most budget-friendly choice for a regular night out.
  • Some folks have had mixed experiences with larger gatherings, like service hiccups or disappointments after changes such as the refurb.
  • There might be the odd quirky issue with dishes, such as that confusing burnt hay element, which could leave you scratching your head.

Very relaxed on a Sunday, beautiful place inside and out. There is loads of seating, and perfect for a summer day or evening outside. Staff are friendly and food is yummy - good fries and the veggie burger was good. Everyone liked their food too (roast, beef burger and squid) They have a car park too Also dog friendly so that’s a bonus! 🐾

We visited for Father’s Day and the food was very nicely cooked and presented - some certainly more standout than others, but I think we chose well. The chicken pieces with buffalo and garlic sauce was an excellent starter, as was the beef cheek croquettes (not sure what the burnt hay was?). Our roast dinners were good, and the bottomless portions of Yorkshire puddings were a nice touch. I felt the roast beef was a little under cooked for my personal preference, but the portions were just right - realistically I should’ve asked them for medium rare roast beef when placing the order but no problem. The service was slower than ideal (28 mins between end of starter and mains), but assume that they took a little bit longer as they wanted to ensure the food served was well prepared, and at lunch on Father’s Day they were busy - testament to this, they ran out of Coca Cola in glass bottles! Would recommend (especially if you go for tapas style on starters!)

I did post a review after the beautifully lavish refurb; but upon checking it didn’t seem to go through.. The Albert Pub is wonderful. The staff are incredibly friendly, and the food is always delicious. While it may not be the cheapest night out, it’s definitely one not to be missed! My daughter absolutely loves their chips and Sunday roast, and what makes it even more special is how warmly she is welcomed by everyone. All the staff are extremely polite, cheerful, have a friendly manner and provide an excellent service. In fact, she knows these fabulous people on a first name basis. Kerran, Adam, Rosie, Keiran, Ben, Ash, Katie, Ben, Ashlii, Ken, Jack, Carlos & Miles have been nothing but nice to her! Thank you all for making every visit such a memorable one! Much appreciated, cant recommend enough! 🫶 📸 Picture credits: The Albert's Facebook page & my daughter Eshal.

We went here to celebrate a couple of big birthdays and were sadly incredibly disappointed. Having been here a few times prior to the refurbishment we were excited to see what it was like following all the work. As a party of 6 we were asked to pay a deposit and pre-order our meals which was all fine given the time of year. When we arrived it took some time for anyone to come over and say they had just asked the kitchen to start prepping our meals (we had already been to the bar to get our own drinks). It then took ages for our food to arrive, approx 1 hour, and we were told there had been a miscommunication in the kitchen which is why there was a delay - despite there being barely anyone dining at this point. When we received the food we were shocked. Two of our party had ordered the chicken supreme - we were met with chicken in gravy and chips - something you might find from your ‘greasy cafe’ type of eatery, not a gastropub (see photo!) not a single vegetable in sight and were given our condiments 10 minutes after asking for them. We felt the need to complain, the food we received was not what had been advertised on the menu, and kindly the staff member offered a free pudding. That seemed nice, however the pudding menu was mediocre at best - I have never seen ‘jelly and cream’ offered on an adults dessert menu in a restaurant! We went up to the bar to ask for the receipt and waited a further 20-30 minutes for that to arrive. One of our party managed to sort out a discount given our disappointment but unfortunately the whole experience was really quite negative. We were there 2.5 hours and had 1 course - most of that was waiting to be served or waiting for food. Sadly despite it being a local pub to all of us I don’t think we will be back. It’s a shame so much work has been put into doing up the place but yet the food in particular has massively gone downhill.

Lovely, spacious pub with great service and great food. Had gone past the pub mainly times and it usually looked quite busy, so decided to stop in for lunch; was very pleased with this decision. Service was very quick and our waitress was very friendly. I had the Albert Beef Burger and can highly recommend. My parents had the Haddock and Chips and Chicken Schnitzel, and also said they were very tasty. Only complaint was about the mushy peas, which tasted bad and looked as if they came out of the freezer, but this wasn’t a bother. We shared a Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert—the portion size was great (very large if we weren’t sharing), and it was very tasty. Would highly recommend if you live locally!
