About This Pub
Ah, the Black Horse in Kingston – it's one of those pubs that really pulls you in with its welcoming feel and prime spot near the town centre. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is a real highlight; they've got this new menu that's packed with tasty options like hearty roasts and fresh pies, and it's all at prices that won't break the bank, which is a bonus in this neck of the woods. The outside terrace is just brilliant for a summer evening, with space for 80 folks, complete with booths and even a fire pit for those chillier nights – ideal if you're into catching the big games or having a casual game of pool. Plus, being dog-friendly adds that extra touch of homeliness, making it easy to swing by with your pup for a pint. On the flip side, though, it's not all perfect; a couple of reviews mentioned some service slip-ups, like having to chase for cutlery or ending up with a dish that was a bit underwhelming, so it might not be the smoothest experience every time. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.4, it's clear most folks leave chuffed, especially if you're after a solid spot for drinks and a bite with mates. I'd say it's worth a visit for the good vibes and community spirit, just keep an eye out for those little niggles to manage your expectations.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food's absolutely spot on with a fantastic new menu full of classics like roasts and pies, and it's surprisingly affordable for Kingston.
-
They've got a stunning outside terrace that's perfect for soaking up the sun, watching sports on the TVs, or even playing a game of pool.
-
It's super dog-friendly, so you can pop in with your four-legged mate and still enjoy a relaxed vibe.
-
The drinks selection is brilliant, with a great range of real ales, craft beers, and more, making it a proper community hub.
-
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with friendly staff and events like quizzes that make it feel like a local favourite.
Cons
-
Service can sometimes fall short, like when cutlery isn't provided without a nudge, which puts a bit of a dampener on things.
-
A few dishes might not quite hit the spot, as one person mentioned a bland prawn cocktail, so it pays to choose carefully.
-
There could be the odd inconsistency in food quality, like with that ragu not living up to expectations for some tastes.

Great to see this beautiful pub under new management, fantastic new menu and great selection of drinks. Very affordable for the area and the outside space is stunning, perfect place to come to watch sports and play pool. Dog friendly as well. Highly recommended!
Lovely friendly people . Had a roast both times I’ve visited and food is amazing . Great atmosphere . Will definitely be returning .
A quiet start to the afternoon at the Black Horse in Norbiton. I am guessing, built in the 1930s (poss post war for repairs) to accommodate larger mobile traffic. A massive roundabout pub with a wraparound bar and plenty of keg beers on offer, also a couple of casks on offer, changeover demands two are missing. Lovely service and plenty of space, both inside and out. Not a bad place at all.
We visited for mother day lunch following a recommendation.
At the time of our visit we did not know it was under new management.
The visit was awful.
We ordered starters and mains.
The prawn cocktail was bland.
Cutlery wasn’t provided until we went to the bar and asked for it.
We had to ask for our mains because we waited a significant time and our starter plates were not cleared. We were told another large group had ordered a lot of food.
The staff seemed very new and unsure what they should be doing. They were really not ready for Mother's Day service and half the tables were empty.
We ordered four Lamb roasts at £24 each!
We received roast dinner trimmings with 2 LAMB CHOPS. I asked the staff if the roast lamb that was advertised on the menu had run out, the waitress couldn’t tell me and went to check with the kitchen, I didn’t receive a response so I went to the bar and asked again. I was told that this is how they serve roast lamb, with lamb chops not roast lamb.
If this was stated on the menu we would not have ordered the lamb. I have never experienced this in any pub.
It ruined an already bad meal and cost us nearly £200.
As we were leaving we day a sign saying free Prosecco for mums and 50% off food- this was not being offered in the venue!
Would not go back!
We went in for a bite and were surprised by the variety on the menu. The pie and mash was nice but the Mrs didn’t care for the ragu. My wife who is from South America thought chorizo meant spiced sausage in every country. Apparently not.
The beef and onion pie were tasty and fresh.
The apple crumble was also a nice finish to a typical pub grub evening.
