About This Pub
Ah, The Packhorse – what a lovely find in the Oxfordshire countryside! From the moment you step in, it's clear they've got a real passion for good food and a welcoming vibe. The grub is spot on, with everything made from fresh, local ingredients that celebrate the seasons – think farm-to-table classics like seafood linguine or a cracking Sunday roast that leaves you wanting more. The team there are absolute stars, always going the extra mile to sort out any requests, whether it's for a big birthday bash or just a quiet meal. It's got that family feel, with options for the little ones and even dogs welcome, so it's great for a proper get-together. On the flip side, it does lean towards the more expensive end, which might make you think twice for everyday visits, and being out in the sticks, it's not the easiest spot to pop to without driving. All in all, it's a solid choice for a memorable pub outing – I'd say give it a go if you're after quality over quantity.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely brilliant – fresh, locally sourced ingredients make every meal feel like a treat, from hearty Sunday lunches to light bites.
-
Service is top-notch and really accommodating, especially for large groups or those with special requests; it's like they've got a sixth sense for making you feel welcome.
-
It's a proper family-friendly spot, with options for younger ones and even muddy paws allowed in the bar and conservatory, perfect for a relaxed day out.
-
The atmosphere is warm and inviting, set in a beautiful part of the Oxfordshire countryside, making it ideal for enjoying good wine, beers, and a chat with mates.
Cons
-
It can be a bit on the pricey side, with meals adding up quickly, so it might not be ideal for a casual midweek pint without splashing out.
-
Tucked away in the countryside, it could be tricky to get to if you're relying on public transport, meaning it's best for those with a car or nearby.

We had a birthday meal here for 20 people. We had a wonderful evening. The food excellent and staff more than excellent. We had a number of tricky requirements and they were totally accommodating and helpful. Thank you!!!
The food was outstanding!!! There's obviously a very skilled chef working here!!! The service was also excellent! Keep up the great work!!
Another great meal here again last night. We had glass of wine each, starter and main meal. £65 to include the £6 service charge.
Mushroom soup was thick and delicious. I had seafood linguine and himself had chicken risotto, both perfect.
Went here on a Saturday afternoon in December for our traditional family Christmas dinner. There were 12 in our party. This included 8 adults and 4 children. We were greeted by the friendly staff and shown to our table. The service throughout the meal was excellent. We never felt rushed, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Some of our party selected items off the Christmas menu whilst others selected off the a la carte menu. We had to select our food a day prior to arrival at the restaurant as this ensured that no one would be disappointed if food ran out on the day ! The food was really good. I selected my courses off the Christmas menu and was impressed with the presentation and quality of the food. Our drinks included cocktails, beer, and wine for the adults ! The ambience was great, too. We were also pleasantly surprised at the final bill when it arrived !
I would have no hesitation in recommending this gastro pub/restaurant.
Delicious fish and chips. Possibly the best chips I've had at a pub! Just the right amount of thick/thin and crunchy outer crust and fluffy inside. I suspect they might be twice/triple cooked. Nice thin batter and generous size of fish which flaked away beautifully. Would have again! Wine is also reasonably priced (sub £5 for a small glass).
