About This Pub

Ah, The Oxford Retreat – what a gem of a pub tucked away in Oxford, right by the river with those graceful weeping willows adding a touch of charm. I've got to say, it's one of those places that really hits the mark for a casual catch-up or even a productive work session, thanks to all those handy plug points under the tables. The food is straightforward but spot-on, with burgers and chips that folks rave about, and the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome, which always lifts the spirits. It's got this versatile energy too, transforming into a hub for events like Reggaeton nights or live music on Saturdays, so there's always something buzzing. On the flip side, the hours might catch you out if you're an early riser, as it doesn't open until 4 PM on weekdays, and things can add up price-wise if you're not careful. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone popping into Oxford – you'll likely leave with a smile, but it's worth keeping those timings in mind for the best experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's conveniently located just a stone's throw from the train and bus stations, making it a brilliant spot for a quick pitstop or a relaxed wait.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready with a smile and efficient service that makes you feel right at home.
  • They serve up some top-notch pub grub, like those delicious burgers and chips – simple, hearty fare that's done just right.
  • With plug sockets and USB points at every table, it's a fantastic place to get some work done or charge up while enjoying a drink.
  • The atmosphere is versatile and lively, hosting everything from cosy evenings to events like live music, parties, and even speed dating for a bit of fun.
Cons
  • The opening hours can be a tad late on weekdays, kicking off at 4 PM, which might not suit if you're after an early lunch or afternoon pint.
  • Prices are on the moderate side, so it could feel a bit pricey if you're planning to linger for more than a quick visit.

It’s a stone throw away from the station, reasonably priced, does great chips, has friendly service , plug sockets under the tables, great atmosphere. Exactly what I need whilst waiting 40 minutes for a train. Will come back again!

I can highly recommend renting out the study for private events. It is a great venue with very competitive prices and the great communication with Lambros from the beginning to end made the event planning very easy.

I had a fantastic time here while waiting for my train. It’s just a 5-minute walk from the station, which makes it a perfect and convenient spot to relax before heading off. The staff were super friendly, and there’s a great selection of food and drinks on offer. One thing I really appreciated is that the place is pet-friendly. I saw a few customers relaxing in the garden with their dogs, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re allowed indoors as well. The garden itself is a lovely space, heated, with big TVs and a beautiful view overlooking the canals. Although I didn’t order food myself, I saw plenty of dishes being served around me. Everything looked delicious, smelled amazing, and the portions were generous. Highly recommended, especially if you’re looking for a cozy, welcoming place near the station!

Nice cosy bistro pub with a fantastic outdoor area. The menu looked good and had some good gluten-free options at a glance, although on this occasion, it was just a cheeky couple of mulled wines for me. Staff were lovely, the place was very clean and well presented, and inside having a fire and 2 rivers babbling away when outside created a wonderful atmosphere for a mild winter evening. Look forward to returning on my next trip to Oxford.
