About This Pub

Ah, George Street Social – it's one of those places in Oxford that just feels like a proper gem when you're out and about. From the moment you step in, you're greeted with this inviting vibe, perfect for everything from a casual coffee in the morning to sipping on craft beers late into the evening. The food really steals the show; their brunch menu is spot on, with standout dishes like pancakes and shakshuka that are packed with flavour and cater well to all sorts of dietary preferences. And let's not forget the drinks – those Margarita Fridays sound like a blast, and the bottomless options make it ideal for a fun get-together without breaking the bank. The staff are genuinely lovely, always up for a chat and making sure you're looked after, which adds that extra warmth to the whole experience. On the flip side, it does seem like they have the occasional off moment, where service might not be as sharp or things could feel a tad inconsistent, so it's worth keeping that in mind if you're planning a special occasion. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for anyone wanting a relaxed spot to unwind, with plenty of events and live music to keep things lively – I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area and fancy a bite with good company.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely spot on – it's warm, welcoming, and perfect for catching up with mates over coffee or cocktails, with bookshelves and board games adding a fun, relaxed vibe.
  • The food is a real highlight, especially the brunch options like those fluffy pancakes, shakshuka, and eggs; they've got plenty of vegan and vegetarian choices too, and the bottomless Prosecco deal is a brilliant bargain.
  • Service is top-notch from what I've seen – the staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making everyone feel right at home, whether you're popping in for a quick bite or planning a special event.
  • They've got a great selection of drinks, including craft beers and those legendary Margaritas on Fridays, plus live music on some nights that really livens things up.
Cons
  • There might be the odd off day where things aren't quite as smooth, like service slipping a bit or the experience not living up to expectations, based on a couple of reviews mentioning a less-than-ideal first visit.
  • It can get pretty busy, especially at weekends, so you might need to book ahead to snag a table and avoid any waiting around, which could put a dampener on spontaneous plans.

We were treated by the George Street Social Team to a lovely brunch following a previous experience where we caught the restaurant on an off day. We were much more impressed on our second visit by the food (I would recommend the berry pancakes)! The service was fantastic, and the atmosphere was great. Thank you very much to Peter and the George Street Social Team!

Have come here several times, for brunch and dinner, and am always impressed by the good food and especially the exceptional service. There are multiple options for vegetarians. Peter is incredibly friendly, funny, and kind, and always makes us want to come back. One of my favorites in downtown Oxford.

Visited Oxford for the first time and tried this lovely brunch spot. I got the Breakfast Bun which was absolutely delicious, no complaints, very flavourful and extremely yummmy!!! The hot chocolate was lovely and not too sweet too and the pancakes were nice! What I loved as well is that this cafe has games and books that you can read / play while dining. Me and my boyfriend ended up playing Articulate for 45mins after we finished dining and we loved the atmosphere, very relaxed with lovely staff. I live far from Oxford but if I’m ever down again, I know where to go! Thank you :)))
