About This Pub

Ah, The Jolly Farmers – what a gem of a pub in the heart of Oxford! I've got to say, it's one of those places that just makes you feel right at home from the moment you step in. It's Oxford's oldest LGBTQ+ venue, and that really shines through in the warm, inclusive atmosphere; it's all about celebrating community and having a laugh. The beer selection is spot on, with some brilliant local brews that hit the spot every time – I particularly love trying out those hand-pulled options for that authentic pub feel. Inside, it's got this lovely, relaxed setup with plush sofas, cosy corners for a quiet catch-up, and even board games and books if you're in the mood for something a bit more chilled. And don't get me started on the garden; it's heated and covered, so you can enjoy it year-round, making it perfect for a summer evening or a winter get-together. The staff are an absolute delight, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels welcome, which is just what you want from a local spot. On the flip side, though, it's a bit of a shame they don't do proper food – just the basics like crisps and nuts – so if you're peckish, you might have to bring your own or head elsewhere. Plus, the drinks can be a little steep price-wise, which might make you think twice if you're planning a long night. All in all, it's a fantastic place for a pint and some good company, especially if you're looking for that friendly, community vibe in Oxford, but it's worth weighing up those little niggles for the full experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely welcoming and inclusive, especially as Oxford's oldest LGBTQ+ venue – it's like walking into a big, friendly hug.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of beers, including some cracking local brews on hand pump, perfect for a proper pint session.
  • The interior is so cosy with comfy sofas, quieter nooks, board games, and books scattered about – ideal for a relaxed chat or a first date.
  • The garden is a real gem; it's heated and covered, making it usable even on chillier evenings, and it's spacious enough for a good laugh with mates.
  • The staff and owners are lovely and friendly, always ready with a smile and a warm welcome, which really makes you feel at home.
Cons
  • They don't serve proper food, just basics like nuts, crisps, and pork scratchings, so you might need to pop out or bring your own grub along.
  • Drinks can be a tad on the pricey side, which might add up if you're settling in for the evening – worth keeping in mind for a budget night out.

I small cosy pub with a comfortable garden. There’s a nice beer selection, including a couple of hand drawn local brews. The pub doesn’t serve food, other than nuts, crisps and the ubiquitous pork scratchings. It does, however, tolerate and encourage brought-in food, whether home sourced or purchased from one of the local bakeries. This is a friendly pub with a real ‘local’ feel, in contrast to local “booze barns” that cater for tourists and family groups.

I walked into what I Will describe as one of the most, friendly, relaxing, beautiful pubs Iv ever visited. The in side is so unique with its sofas, quieter areas, board games, books and lovely decorated walls and comfortable furniture. The garden is a lovely size and just like the inside it is relaxing and a really nice area. We didn't eat so I cannot comment on the food but the service was perfect and the atmosphere was great. I'm not local to the area (about a hour away) but I would purposely go back just to visit this pub again

I love the Jolly Farmers! It's so fun and friendly, my favorite first date spot. Staff and owners are lovely. It is nice that they let you bring in your own food, the fire is warm and welcoming and there are lovely leather sofas!

This pub was sooo lovely!!! The staff were so nice and the building is gorgeous! Went for an event in the garden and the price of the drinks was quite expensive so that is why one star down but overall just had one of the best nights in Oxford :)! Would be back again :)!!

Picked out this Cask Marque pub near the shopping centre. Two real ales, and a new brewery for me.... Disruption brewery, More Chaos Pale Ale, an unrefined beer but very good. Lots of rooms and a good sized rear garden. Visited on a quiet Thursday afternoon. Lovely pub.
