About This Pub

Ah, The Ostrich – it's one of those classic Manchester pubs that feels like a proper hidden gem, especially if you're in Prestwich or popping over from Heaton Park. I reckon it's spot on for a laid-back afternoon or evening; the friendly atmosphere and cosy nooks make it easy to settle in and chat away with friends. The beer garden is an absolute highlight – it's huge and well set up, so whether it's a sunny day or you're dodging the rain, you've got options. And let's not forget the drinks; they're serving up quality Joseph Holt brews at prices that won't break the bank, alongside all the usual suspects for a round. Entertainment-wise, it's buzzing with live sports, a jukebox for some tunes, and even a pool table to keep things lively. On the flip side, I've heard a few tales of staff not being as welcoming as you'd hope, with some stories making it sound like they rush you out if you're not ordering quick enough – that's a bit of a downer and could put you off. Overall, though, with such a solid rating and loads of positive vibes from regulars, I'd say it's worth giving it a go, just keep your expectations in check for the service and you'll likely have a cracking time.

  • The beers are top-notch from Joseph Holt, and they're well-priced, with a good selection of lagers, wines, and spirits to boot.

  • The pub's ideal for functions or events, with cosy rooms and space for meetings, plus they're hosting fun things like Oasis-themed parties.
Cons

Rude staff, repeatedly said we needed to make a purchase or leave within the minute of arriving, kept coming back and staring at us even after that while we made our orders and generally made sure we understood we weren't welcome. Finished my pint and left. Don't give these deplorables your money.

This is a nice pub, just across the road from Heaton Park. I popped into for a swift pint on a Friday lunchtime. It wasn't busy, but i found the locals and bar staff to be very friendly. I didn't go outside into the garden, but it looks a good size for when the weather is more pleasant. I had a pint of the Joseph Holt Stout, which was very agreeable and went down well. As usual, I haven't rated the food as I didn't eat there.

A classic, traditional, old Holt’s boozer.

Great pub with ample gardens. We were in the area having visited an emergency vet. An uncle ran the pub in the 1950’s, I’d never been, so it was an interesting place to visit for a drink.

What an absolute banger of a pub this was to experience. It’s like stepping back in time at how pubs should be. Really nice beers and ales on tap and a absolutely huge beer garden. Covered and uncovered seating for any weather
