About This Pub

Ah, The Old White Horse – it's one of those classic Ember Inns spots in Stourbridge that just feels like a proper British pub, you know? I've been hearing some cracking feedback from folks who've popped in; the staff really stand out, always going the extra mile with their warm welcomes and efficient service, like how Heather and Jeanie nailed it on a busy evening for one group. The food's a highlight too – think scrumptious dishes from the fixed-price menus, with plenty for veggies, vegans, and little ones, all at prices that won't break the bank. It's smack in the middle of a great area, just a stone's throw from lovely parks and walks, so it's spot-on for a casual meet-up after exploring. On the downside, it's not all roses; one person mentioned a chewy steak that didn't live up to expectations, and there was that sticky menu issue that felt a bit off. Still, with most people raving about their visits, it's got that reliable charm for a relaxed night out, as long as you go in with an open mind for the occasional hiccup.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and make you feel right at home, with their friendly chats and efficient service.
  • The food is generally delicious and great value, offering a wide range of options like tasty pub classics, vegetarian choices, and even a kids' menu for family outings.
  • It's in a brilliant spot near Mary Stevens Park and other walking areas, making it ideal for a relaxing stop after a stroll.
  • The pub has a clean, stylish interior and a welcoming atmosphere, perfect for catching up with friends or enjoying a mid-week treat.
Cons
  • Food quality can sometimes fall short, like one instance where a steak was chewy and disappointing.
  • Little niggles like a sticky menu have cropped up, which might put a damper on the experience.
  • The operating hours seem a bit confusing from what's listed, so it's worth double-checking to avoid any surprises.

Had a fantastic meal and service was spot on from Heather and Jeanie on a busy Tuesday evening. Being a chef from Australia we could not fault the friendly and professional service and our two children fully enjoyed it. Highly recommend it.

A group of five adults met to eat at the Old White Horse, which we had visited before it was an Ember Inn. As soon as we arrived, we were delightfully greeted by Grace who sought to cater to our needs as efficiently as possible. She has a wide knowledge of the drinks on offer. She identified our reserved table and was most accommodating about the best way to combine drinks and food onto a single "tab". Once we were seated and selected food, it arrived promptly and was most enjoyable, As she was passing our table, Grace then enquired about our further requiremenets and retained a drinks order in her head which she provided promptly, even though she was working alone at the bar. Grace is a credit to the Old White Horse.

We shared the spicy chicken nachos between 3 and there was plenty. Very tasty. Main course I had sea bass. It was delicious & the hollandaise sauce was divine. I thought prices very reasonable and will definitely go again. Thoroughly recommend

The White Horse is a fantastic local pub that I visit at least once a week, and every experience has been excellent. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home. Tim, with his signature jazzy shirts, always takes the time to chat, adding to the warm and personal atmosphere. The food is consistently great—always served on time, offering good value for money, and tasting delicious. I’ve never had a single complaint. Whether for a casual drink or a meal, the White Horse is a place I’m always happy to recommend to friends and family!

My first visit here as an Ember Inn. The decor of this place is nice, it looks nice and clean. However I opened the menu, which was stained and sticky. I had a steak, which was extremely chewy. The waitress did come around asking if everything was alright. But this was before I cut into my steak. My partner had half roast chicken, which she enjoyed. Total cost was around £38. Cant see myself coming back here again.
