About This Pub

Ah, The Old Ship Inn – it's one of those places that just hits the spot for a good old pub experience, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around, the food is a standout; think mouthwatering Jamaican jerk chicken and oxtail that's freshly prepared and packed with authentic flavours, making it a brilliant spot if you're in the mood for something beyond the usual pub fare. The host is spot on, really making everyone feel welcome, and they've got these fun open mic events that bring in a lively crowd and some talented performers, which adds a nice community feel. On the flip side, the opening times seem a tad muddled, so you might end up planning around that, and it's a shame there's no website to quickly check what's on or get more details. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening out, with plenty of positives that outweigh the minor niggles, especially if you're up for trying some tasty Caribbean twists in a traditional pub setting.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is absolutely brilliant – especially the Jamaican jerk chicken and Caribbean dishes, which are fresh, authentic, and full of flavour, making it a real treat for anyone craving something different.
  • The atmosphere is so welcoming and friendly, with a great host who makes you feel right at home, perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates.
  • They've got some cracking events like open mic afternoons, which add a lively buzz and showcase some amazing local talent.
  • It's a proper traditional pub with a solid overall vibe, ideal for a casual pint or a bite after a day out.
Cons
  • The opening hours can be a bit confusing and inconsistent, so it's wise to double-check before heading over to avoid any disappointment.
  • Without a website, it's not the easiest to get the latest info, which might leave you relying on word of mouth or a quick Google search.

Been out for the day and Popped into the Old Ship on a Sunday about 3:30pm we were made really welcome by everyone. They had an open mic afternoon from 4pm till about 7:30pm. Wow the talent was amazing and with lots of different artists. It was so well organised and ran like clockwork. We ended up staying and had an awesome afternoon. The Landlord was very welcoming and extremely funny. We live in Sussex and it’s over an hours drive away but we will be definitely going back on a Sunday again.
