About This Pub
You know, when you pop into Sir Henry's, it's got this wonderful old-world charm that just draws you in – think a 750-year-old building with a moat and a beautifully landscaped beer garden that's ideal for whiling away an afternoon. The food really shines, with hearty British classics and those Sunday roasts that folks rave about, all made from fresh local produce, and don't even get me started on the cocktails and wine picks that add a bit of flair. The staff are usually spot on, making it a brilliant spot for catching up with friends or celebrating something special, like a birthday or a small wedding. But, to be fair, it's not all perfect; there have been times when service dragged a bit, leaving some waiting longer than they'd like, so it pays to keep that in mind if you're planning a quick visit. Overall, it's a gem in Essex that's worth a try for a relaxed meal or a proper pub experience, as long as you go in with realistic expectations.

Came on 6/4 at about 12.45 for Sunday lunch and my daughters birthday. Sat in the garden as we brought our dog and also so that grandson could use the play area. We were told it was table service for food and drinks. After 20 minutes and no sign of someone to take our drinks order my son went inside and got our drinks himself. When we eventually had someone come to take our food order we were told to order our starters only then when we got them to order our main course as they couldn't guarantee that both courses wouldn't arrive together if ordered at the same time! The staff are pretty quick with the card machine to take payment as soon as possible! So we got our starters
, the waitress said she come back for our main order but never did. My daughter went in and complained and we finally got someone to take our order . So another long wait! (Which could have been avoided if the kitchen had a normal system where you could order 2 courses) we did manage to get another round of drinks! The food was ok when it eventually arrived. We fancied dessert but it was almost 4pm by then and we'd all lost the will to live! The garden wasn't that busy?I don't know if it was busy inside or if they have the same ridiculous ordering system there? It is a nice pub in a nice setting but they seriously need to do something about their ordering system because " table service " isn't. We won't be visiting again!
Had a lovely experience on Saturday. we had a small wedding party of 14 that had been allocated the small private dining area. From start to finish assistance was fabulous allowing us to drop off balloons and cake especially early. The food and service were great, and our waitress was fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble and we were never made to feel rushed. Have eaten at Sir Henry’s several times for meals but only the second time for something extra special (daughters 21st previously). We had a fabulous time and made better by the special touches!
Thank you all at Sir Henry’s!
Very well thoughtout use of the garden/seating space. Beautiful and clever natural hedge partitioning between seating sections. You feel private with your company but immersed in the garden.
Fantastic experience at Sir Henry's. It's very rare to get that authentic gastropub vibe without feeling too forced, but Sir Henry's gets it spot on.
A good test of pub grub is how well they do a sunday meals; Sir Henry's do an excellent job - we got the mixed meat sunday roast and the roast pork.
Great value for money: very filling and tasty. Especially the roast pork - crispy crackling with soft melt in the mouth meat. The mixed sunday roast actually was so filling! It was more than enough for me and the misses.
There's loads of seating available, more so during the warmer days as they open up outdoor seating. Great scenery around it too. So outdoors is a great shout. Very child friendly - There's quite a bit of space for the little ones to run around outside.
Overall, a fantastic experience, definitely a place to go out of the way for a great meal and a place to chill.
I actually went in the summer so this review is so overdue but I’m so glad my friend showed me this pub. The atmosphere in this place was so fantastic, food was good and the staff were lovely. It’s definitely worth a visit if you are in the local area.
