About This Pub
Ah, The Old Red House – it's one of those classic pubs that really grows on you if you're in the mood for a laid-back night out. I've got to say, the staff are absolute gems; they're so approachable and make everyone feel comfortable, which is just what you want after a long day. The ales on offer are a highlight too – proper choices like Trawlerboys and Landlord that hit the spot for us beer lovers. And if you're into music, their open jam sessions add a fun, community feel that makes it more than just a drink-up. On the flip side, though, it's a bit frustrating when the opening hours don't match what's listed, leaving you hanging around or heading elsewhere. We've heard tales of unexpected age checks that could spoil the fun, and while it's a decent spot, the beer variety and garden area are nothing special, so it might not wow you if you're expecting top-tier options. All in all, it's worth a visit for the warm atmosphere and friendly chats, but keep an eye on those details to avoid any disappointments – it's a solid choice for a casual pint with mates, as long as you go in with realistic expectations.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
They've got a solid selection of decent ales, like Trawlerboys and Timothy Taylor's Landlord, which are always a treat for us ale enthusiasts.
-
It's a charming little spot with a cosy atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed evening or catching one of their monthly open jam sessions.
Cons
-
The opening hours can be a bit unreliable, as some folks have turned up expecting it to be open only to find it shut, which is a real letdown.
-
There have been a few mix-ups with age restrictions, like being challenged unexpectedly, which might put off younger crowds or first-timers.
-
The beer selection is just okay – nothing standout – and the beer garden isn't much to write home about, so it might not impress if you're after something fancy.

Couldn't rate because they weren't open. Says they open at 12. Got a taxi only to find out they weren't opening till 2. The Bell opposite was open and what a find that was. BRILLIANT. So if they can't get their hours listed properly I won't bother again. It's the Bell for me in future.
We are new to the area and have only been two to three times. The staff are very friendly and we have felt very comfortable.
Walked in during thunderstorms, midday on a Saturday, whilst it was empty, put five pounds into the pool table with some mates, after putting the money in, and racking the balls for a league match, we were then laughed at by the women, and then told us we had to be 18 to step foot in the pub, (poster said 14?) we are 17, never usually a problem in anywhere else? After mentioning the money, she laughed and told us to leave during the storm.
Dont take your kids here not child friendly.
Went down there to see how the monthly "open jam" session and found it a really charming little pub. Icing on the cake is that they serve a good selection of decent ales including Trawlerboys and my personal favourite Timothy Taylor's Landlord. Will be back 👍
Decent little watering hole. The selection of beers is mediocre. The beer gardens is nothing to brag about. However, the staff is friendly and efficient.
