About This Pub

Ah, The Old Post Office – it's one of those Liverpool gems that feels like a proper local haunt, you know? I popped in the other day and was chuffed with how welcoming the staff were; they're always up for a laugh and make you feel right at home from the get-go. It's brilliant for catching the big games on their HD screens, with a real buzz in the air during matches – whether it's footie or rugby, it'll get you hooked. Plus, the drink deals are spot on, offering great value without skimping on quality, and that classic Victorian style with its comfy seats and vintage lighting adds a lovely touch of nostalgia. It's also nice to see it's family-friendly early on and even dogs are welcome, making it feel inclusive for everyone in the community. On the downside, though, the place does show its age in spots; the infrastructure isn't quite up to modern standards, and it's a bit of a shame it's moved away from its roots as a quaint spot with decent food – it used to be a favourite for a nice lunch, but now it's more about the drinks and sport. Still, if you're after a straightforward, affordable evening out with mates, it's a solid choice, but it might not impress if you're hoping for something a tad more polished. All in all, it's got that heartwarming community spirit that makes it worth a visit, warts and all!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and professional, making every visit feel warm and welcoming, like chatting with old mates.
  • It's a fantastic spot for watching live sports such as football, rugby, and horse racing, with HD screens and a lively atmosphere that gets everyone involved.
  • Drinks are affordably priced with some unbeatable offers, perfect for a casual catch-up without emptying your wallet.
  • The pub has a charming vintage Victorian aesthetic, with stylish curtains and comfortable seating that gives it an authentic, nostalgic feel.
  • It's inclusive and community-oriented, allowing children until 7pm and welcoming dogs, so it's great for families or those with furry friends early in the evening.
Cons
  • The infrastructure could use some updates; it's not the flashiest place, with a few areas that feel a bit dated and in need of modernisation.
  • It seems to have lost some of its original personality and charm since shifting focus to sports, making it feel less quaint than it once was.
  • There's no mention of good food options anymore, which is a pity as it used to be a highlight, so you might need to head elsewhere if you're after a proper meal.

Not one of the shiny fancy pubs but one Liverpudlians visit to have a pint or two and watch some footie. The infrastructure would need some upgrades but on the other hand we liked it. Recommended!

I liked it before it became a sports pub a few years ago and it was quaint and had good food. It has lost its personality and charm. It was full of nice people out for shopping and a nice lunch...in those days.

This was a superb pub for drinking, remaining open in the city centre to get drinks coming very close to midnight! The design has a classic Victorian aesthetic, curtains are stylish and the lighting has a vintage feel too. Counter is neatly presented, seating is comfortable when I had a classic Strongbow Dark Fruits and toilets were very clean!
