About This Pub
Ah, Carnarvon Castle – what a delightful little pub it is in the heart of Liverpool! I have to say, it's one of those places that really captures the spirit of a classic British boozer. The landlord stands out as a real highlight; he's so passionate about Liverpool FC and loves sharing stories with everyone, even kicking off a singalong of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' at last orders – it's those little touches that make you feel like part of the gang. The atmosphere is spot on too, offering a peaceful escape from the city's buzz, with a cosy, old-school interior that's perfect for unwinding over a good chat and a pint. And speaking of pints, they've got a solid lineup of drinks and ales that cater to all tastes, which is always a winner in my book. On the downside, though, it's not all smooth sailing; I've heard from a few mates that some of the staff aren't quite as approachable, with one person mentioning a rather blunt interaction that left them feeling a tad put out. It seems like the place has lost a bit of its former sparkle for some, and that odd moment of feeling watched when you first step in can make things feel a smidge unwelcoming. Still, overall, it's a solid spot for a laid-back evening – just go in with an open mind and you'll likely have a great time, as long as you're up for the occasional quirk.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant, especially the landlord who's a massive Liverpool fan and makes everyone feel right at home with his chats and that singalong at closing time.
-
It's a proper calm spot in the middle of Liverpool's hustle and bustle, offering a traditional pub vibe that's just lovely for a relaxed catch-up.
-
They've got a cracking selection of drinks and ales, so you're spoilt for choice when it comes to grabbing a pint.
Cons
-
Some of the staff can come across as a bit unfriendly or abrupt, which takes the shine off things every now and then.
-
A few folks have mentioned it doesn't feel as welcoming as it used to, with some even feeling a bit stared at when they walk in, which isn't the best first impression.

Boss pub , with great staff the landlord is a big Liverpool fan and loves talking about them to customers . At last orders he plays you’ll never walk alone and asks all the staff and patrons to join in before the pub closes for the night .
Not as good as it used to be. Had really good friendly staff at one time. Slim lady with black hair lovely. Some others including the new female manager not. Manager asked "can you move out of the way" as I was standing in the hatch way as nowhere else to stand. Try saying please next time.
Lovely place to pop in. Calm atmosphere in the busy city center with lovely people
This is nearly a hole in the wall and an upside down world compared to the busy shopping avenues just outside the door. A quiet, old school place and nicely decorated for Easter. Classic pub interior. When I walked in I was stared at by most of the patrons which was odd. Chose a pint I hadn’t seen before and enjoyed it before heading out. Friendly folk but the vibe was pretty dark.
Beautiful pub, nice staff
