About This Pub

Ah, The Old Pack Horse – it's one of those classic Chiswick pubs that blends a bit of history with a modern twist, and I've got to say, it's got plenty going for it if you're after a good night out. The Thai menu is what really stands out; think fresh, spicy curries and spring rolls that leave you satisfied, especially paired with their ever-changing craft beers. The staff are absolute gems too – friendly, chatty, and always up for a recommendation, which makes the place feel like a proper local hangout. It's spot on for groups, with loads of seating inside and a nice beer garden for when the weather's on your side, plus they often have quizzes or live music to keep things lively. But, and I say this as a mate would, it's not all perfect; some dishes can be a bit overly salty or sweet, and there have been times when service felt a touch hurried, like they're keen to turn the table quickly. Still, with an overall rating pushing 4.4, it's clear most folks have a great time, so if you're in the area, I'd pop in – just keep expectations realistic and maybe skip it if you're after something super fancy.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Thai food is a real highlight – fresh, aromatic dishes like green curry and spring rolls that hit the spot, especially if you're after something with a bit of spice.
  • Friendly and knowledgeable staff who make you feel welcome, often letting you sample beers and chatting away, which adds to the cosy, community vibe.
  • Plenty of space for groups, with a lovely beer garden and a mix of traditional and modern decor that makes it perfect for a relaxed catch-up or enjoying live music and quizzes.
  • They've got a great selection of craft beers that change regularly, so there's always something new to try alongside the Fuller's classics.
Cons
  • Some dishes can be hit or miss with seasoning – a few folks mentioned curries being too salty or sweet, which might put you off if you're picky about flavours.
  • Service can feel a tad rushed at times, like when they bring the card reader over quickly, making it less relaxing for a leisurely meal.
  • Occasionally, the food quality dips, with reports of meals not looking or tasting as expected, which is a shame for what should be a solid pub grub experience.

Came for a nice Sunday dinner and the food came out looking like something I wouldn’t even feed my dog. Lady came over 2 minutes after the food with a card reader. Really disappointing, If you’re looking for a nice meal with friends go elsewhere. UPDATE: Woke up early hours of the morning and not pleasantly. Sharp pains in my stomach and had to take the day off because I couldn’t drive. Wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. Health and safety need to investigate this place.

Nice setting and plenty of seating space. Good for large groups. Staff were attentive. Menu had a decent variety of options. Ordered the red thai curry, tampura and spring rolls. Decent taste although the red curry was bit too sweet/salrlty for my liking. Overall its a nice to try if you are in the area.

This is nice local pub serving thai food. I am a fan of green thai curry so I ordered it for lunch today. The curry is good size served with nice portions of rice. Curry itself was spicy (which I like) but a bit too salty ( I try not to eat too much salt). I chose vegetarian option which had good size of veggies in the bowl. Overall tasty food and quick service. Great local place for lunch.
