About This Pub
Oh, The Old Green Tree is one of those pubs that just warms your heart the moment you step inside – it's got that authentic English charm with its wood-panelled walls and inviting decor, making it feel like a hidden haven in the heart of Bath. From what I've gathered from the buzz around, the staff are an absolute delight, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels part of the gang, which really adds to the welcoming atmosphere. The beers are a highlight too; they've got some cracking ales that hit the spot perfectly, and it's clear the locals love it, turning even a solo visit into a lively social affair. On the flip side, it's a tiny spot, so it does get packed, and you might find yourself jostling for space or struggling to hear over the chatter, which isn't ideal if you're after a peaceful evening. Plus, if food's on your mind, it seems like it's not their strong suit, so you'd probably want to pop in just for drinks or grab a bite beforehand. All in all, it's a fabulous choice for a relaxed catch-up with friends, but keep in mind it shines brightest for those who appreciate a bit of character over space and amenities.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is spot on for a classic English pub – it's cosy, full of character with wood panelling and lovely decorations that make you feel right at home.
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant; they're friendly, helpful, and go out of their way to make you feel welcome, just like chatting with old mates behind the bar.
-
They've got a cracking selection of beers, including some local ales that are spot on – perfect for a relaxing pint after a wander around Bath.
-
It's a proper community spot where the locals are chatty and inclusive, turning a quick drink into a proper social evening.
Cons
-
The pub is on the small side, so it can get a bit crowded, especially during peak times, which might make it tricky to find a seat or move about.
-
Being so compact, it's not the best for larger groups or if you're after a quieter spot; you might end up feeling a tad squished.
-
There doesn't seem to be much on the food front from what folks have said, so if you're looking for a proper meal with your pint, you might need to head elsewhere.

Great little pub, and I do mean little. The atmosphere is exactly what you are thinking of when you picture a little English pub. Stopped in without knowing what to expect. Bar tender was super friendly and helpful, the locals in the bar were chatty and we sat for a couple hours talking. Was a great time, on the reccomend list for sure!
I never knew this pub existed until the Mystery tour of Bath pointed me in it's direction! What a find!
Wood panelled with 3 different rooms, all dressed with beautiful flowers/faux flowers. The barman clearly enjoys making the environment inviting. It gives off a great vibe and I can imagine in the evening it's a really warm, lively, fun pub to visit.
I do keep seeing food mentioned online, but when we visited (slightly just before lunchtime) I saw no menus and the chalk boards had no mention of food. We may possibly have been too early for lunch though.
A proper pub. Great beer. Great staff. I didn't eat so can't judge the food but if it's as good as everything else then you won't be disappointed. Well worth giving the big chain pubs a miss and spending time in here.
A tiny pub in the centre of Bath. Full of character (and characters). Gets very crowded at times. The snug bar at the front is particularly lovely (and sought after). Great beer.
Superb place with nice beers. Since the first minute we were part of the family. Tried the Old Green Tree ale which was quite good, then we had Monkey Business ale which was very very good, a bit strong, but very tasteful.
The place is so small but the room is covered with wooden panels and that works just right. Will visit again when the life brings us to Bath again :)
