About This Pub

Ah, The Old Dispensary Microbar – it's one of those hidden spots that really grows on you once you step inside. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the place has this inviting atmosphere that's just perfect for unwinding after a long day or catching up with mates over a pint. The beer selection is spot on, with a brilliant range of real ales and ciders that change up regularly, so you're always in for a treat if you're into that sort of thing. And the staff? They're genuinely welcoming, making you feel like a regular from the get-go, which is lovely for building that community vibe. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing – you might find the options a bit limited if you're after something specific, like a fruity cider, and the seating can be a bit dodgy, with wobbly benches that could turn a fun night into a comedy of errors. Plus, it tends to draw in a fair few older folks, which is great for a peaceful drink but might not hit the mark if you're hoping for a more energetic crowd. Overall, it's a solid choice for anyone after an affordable, authentic pub experience in Oldbury, but I'd say go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely spot on – it's warm and welcoming, perfect for a relaxed evening with friends or even a quiet pint on your own.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of real ales and ciders that change regularly, which keeps things exciting and appeals to beer enthusiasts.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and make you feel right at home, with that personal touch that really makes the place stand out.
  • It's inexpensive, so you can enjoy a great night out without breaking the bank, which is always a winner for a casual get-together.
  • Plenty of positive vibes from visitors, especially for special occasions like wakes, where it's handled with a good mix of respect and cheer.
Cons
  • Sometimes the drink options can be a bit limited; for instance, they might not have what you're specifically after, like a fruity cider, even if it's on display.
  • The seating isn't always up to scratch – think wobbly benches that could lead to a funny mishap or two, which might spoil the fun.
  • The staff could do with being a tad more cheerful at times; a smile here and there would make the experience even more enjoyable.
  • It seems to attract a mostly older crowd, which is fine if that's your scene, but it might not feel as lively for those after a more mixed vibe.

Me and my friend came here after a meal to get a drink. On first entering we noticed it was mainly older gentlemen which we didn't mind as we wanted to be left alone. I asked at the bar if they had fruity cider - the bar lady said they didn't. My friend pointed out that they had kopparberg on display and the woman said they didn't have any. We decided to have au and the woman then told us they didn't have the one we wanted so we chose a different flavour. She gave us one can of lemonade for our two drinks which is pretty weird. I wouldn't return here as I feel like it's more of a locals/regulars pub and it didn't feel very welcoming. We quickly finished our drinks and left.

We was here for a private funeral wake. Nearly fell off a very winky picnic bench that was on a slope which was hilarious and the special house cider was blowing my n*#s off after 2 pints!! Love this little bar, but i think the staff could have smiled a little
