About This Pub

Ah, The Old Boat House – what a gem of a spot down in Astley, Manchester. I've got to say, it's one of those places that just hits the mark for a relaxed day out. Picture this: you're sat outside by the canal, soaking up the sun, with a fresh Mediterranean salad or a hearty burger in front of you, and the staff are chatting away like old mates, making sure everything's just right. It's dead dog-friendly too, which is brilliant if you're out for a walk and fancy a pit stop – they even have treats at the ready. The food's always piping hot and full of flavour, and they don't skimp on portions, especially with those lunch deals that feel like a proper bargain. On the flip side, I did have a bit of bother with their website; it wouldn't load properly for me, which is a shame if you're trying to have a quick look before heading over. And with so many folks loving the place – evidenced by that solid 4.4 rating – it can get a tad crowded at times, so maybe give it a ring to check if it's quiet. All in all, it's a top choice for a pint and a chat, and I'd happily pop back for more; it's got that warm, community feel that makes a good pub great.

Pros and Cons

  • The food is spot on – think tasty pub classics like burgers and salads with generous portions that leave you satisfied
  • It's brilliantly dog-friendly, with treats and fresh water bowls available, so you can bring your four-legged mate along

Cons

  • With its popularity, it can get quite busy, especially on weekends, so you might need to plan around that

Lovely afternoon, sat outdoors and sampled their menu. Mediterranean salad was fresh and so tasty! I had my dog with me and he was catered for too with treats at the bar by very kind staff and plenty fresh water bowls dotted around. Lots of seating/umbrellas to take your pick from.

Canal side pub with good choice of drinks and pub-style food. Staff are very welcoming & friendly, they were very quick with food service, really good to be given such individual service. Food was presented nicely, arrived hot and was tasty - burger with blue cheese & mushrooms was really good. My sister had the steak pie & mash which she said was full of lean tender beef. Her only criticism was the gravy tasted a little like ‘bisto’, if it had been made from the pie filling juices then that would have been more to her taste. Difficult to fault this place, £34 for the meal and drinks for two. Give it a try!

Great Pub! I Went Here Yesterday (from the time of posting) And The Service Was Great! The Staff Can Merge Sides And Mains Onto One Plate If Requested. The Staff Are Nice And Polite! And The Food Was Excellent, I Had The Cheese & Bacon Burger With Chilli Chips (you normally get skin on chips alongst your burger but you can ask for chilli chips ( 50p+)) And Trust Me It Was Great! I'd Recommend This Place :)

Had lunch here today with my mum and dad and daughter. The lunch menu is a bargain and is a good sized portion for lunch. My garlic chicken wrap was very tasty and well filled with chicken and salad. The 5 oz gammon was cooked to perfection and the fish and chips were tasty too. Not feeling like a big dessert we were going to have Mini dessert and hot drink. This was not on the menu due to restricted menu due to staff shortages, however, shoutout to India who made us a mini cheesecake and mini crumble herself. My dad was in his element drinking Black Sheep Bitter. Above and beyond with customer service. Can't wait to visit again.

Been to the Boathouse a few times mainly for a drink or popped in when cycling on the canal. First time we’ve had a meal since the new owners took over and we were well impressed! Fabulous atmosphere, traditional pub classics menu. And dog friendly too! George was greeted with treats and lots of cuddles! What more could you ask for! Will definitely be back!
