About This Pub
Ah, The Oaklands – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a friendly local in the heart of Chester, you know? From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, it's got this warm, welcoming energy that's perfect for popping in with the family or mates for a bite and a pint. The staff really shine here; they're always chatty and helpful, sorting out any questions about the menu or making sure everyone's comfortable, which makes the whole visit feel personal and enjoyable. Plus, if you're a sports fan, it's brilliant for that – big screens inside and out mean you won't miss a moment of the action, and with deals like meals for a tenner, it's easy on the wallet too. The food's solid, with plenty of options that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank. On the flip side, though, if you're thinking of staying overnight, the rooms are pretty straightforward – clean and modern enough, but nothing extravagant, and those thin walls might mean you hear more than you'd like from next door. Still, for a casual evening out or a quick stop while exploring Chester, it's a solid choice that delivers on the basics and then some. All in all, it's got that mix of homely charm and good times that makes it worth a visit, especially if you're after somewhere unpretentious and fun.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always going the extra mile to make sure everyone feels right at home.
-
It's a fantastic spot for families, with a relaxed vibe and things like outdoor play areas to keep the little ones entertained.
-
Great value for money, especially with deals like tucking into meals for just a tenner on weekdays – perfect for a budget-friendly night out.
-
If you're into sports, the place is brilliant with large TVs showing live action, making it a top choice for watching the big games.
-
The food and drinks are consistently good, with plenty of options that hit the spot, and the overall atmosphere is lively yet comfortable.
Cons
-
Some rooms can feel a bit basic, like they're more functional than fancy, which might not suit those after a bit more luxury.
-
Noise can be an issue with thin walls, so if you're staying over, you might hear your neighbours, which isn't ideal for a peaceful stay.
-
While it's open long hours, the serving times wrap up fairly early in the evening, so it might not be the late-night spot you're after.

Recent Reviews
My family and I recently visited the Oakland's as part of a family trip.
We were warmly welcomed by friendly staff who were on hand to go through any questions regarding the menu, especially from the children.
The service was excellent, and even after one of the kids wasn't feeling well, there was 2 members of staff that helped beyond what was expected, so I would like to thank them again, as they were a massive help and really helped the child that was distressed. I made a point of asking the names of the staff members, as I wanted to mention them personally, there were Sue Roberts and Elaine Crank.
We will definitely visit the Oakland's again and have already recommended it to friends.
We stayed for 2 nights at this hotel/Inn.
The towels and bed linen were fresh and clean. Rooms and bathroom very basic but you get what you pay for. I could hear someone snoring in the next room the walls are so thin.We wanted a reasonably priced place and that's what we had. Tables at breakfast we're very sticky. The breakfast was just about ok if you like overcooked bacon and the toater takes so long it dries the bread to a crisp and the slices were too big !!! Disappointing Green King Inn Chester (The Oaklands )we've stayed in one in Cheadle Hulme which was much nicer.
We often call in for drinks and/or food. We are always happy with the standard of food, drinks and service. All of the team are friendly and attentive. Elaine C looked after us well this evening. Great value for money.
Absolutely love Oaklands Hotel, Chester! The staff here are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always going out of their way to ensure guests are comfortable and well looked after. The atmosphere is brilliant, especially if you enjoy watching sports—the large TVs both inside and out are fantastic for catching the big game. On top of all this, the food is delightful—fresh, tasty, and generously portioned. It's the perfect place for a relaxing meal or to enjoy a lively evening with friends. Highly recommend and can't wait to visit again soon!
Me and my partner stayed over the bank holiday weekend and visited Chester zoo great location as it’s only 10 mins down the road. The rooms are simple but clean, modern and had everything we needed for an overnight stay.
Check in was nice and easy, Louise was more than happy to help both with check in, taking our order and delivering our food and checking we had everything we needed. All the staff working were and sit happy to be there unlike some GK pubs I have been too.
The pub was clean and a generally nice calm environment. Overall 10/10
