About This Pub

Ah, let me tell you about The Oak Tavern – it's one of those hidden gems in Lowestoft that really captures the essence of a proper British pub. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got an excellent range of real ales and beers that are super reasonably priced, so you won't break the bank just for a pint or two. The staff stand out as absolute stars; they're not just serving drinks, they're making you feel right at home, which is just what you want after a long day. Plus, being dog-friendly and having that nice courtyard garden adds a bit of extra appeal for those sunny afternoons or if you're out with your furry mate. On the flip side, it does tend to be on the quiet side, which might not hit the spot if you're hoping for a bit more energy and chatter – one chap mentioned it felt a tad lifeless on a Saturday visit. And there's that odd whiff that's been noted, so it might be worth keeping an eye out for that. All in all, if you're after a peaceful spot to enjoy a good drink and some genuine hospitality, this place ticks a lot of boxes, but it's probably not the one for a big night out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Fantastic selection of real ales and beers at really affordable prices, making it a top spot for a budget-friendly pint
  • The staff are genuinely welcoming and proud of their pub, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere where you can have a proper chat
  • It's got that lovely traditional vibe, perfect for a relaxed evening without any rowdiness
  • Dog-friendly and with a charming courtyard garden that's well-kept and has covered areas for a bit of outdoor fun
  • Quiet location that's conveniently close to the town centre, bus station, train station, and even the beach, so it's easy to pop in after a day out
Cons
  • It can feel a bit too quiet at times, especially on a Saturday, which might not suit if you're after a lively buzz
  • There's been a mention of a strange smell in there, which could put a dampener on things if it's noticeable

Old fashioned wet only pub with a great selection of beers at super prices. Pleasantly refreshing atmosphere without the yob aspect so people talk to each other not phones and with staff who seem genuinely pleased to see you and are proud of their pub. Lovely place to be.

Wonderful, traditional pub. Dog friendly. Gorgeous, well kept, small courtard garden, with covered areas. A small car park. A nice, quiet location, quite close to the town centre, and not far from the bus station, train station, Sparrows nest and Denes beach. Great choice and value. Lovely staff and clientele. Top juke box, pool table and darts board. Occasional events.A real gem.

Decent pub although very quiet inside and not much of a vibe. I went on a Saturday. Staff and people inside were friendly enough to us. Strange smell.
