About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about The Northern Monkey – it's one of those places in Manchester that really gets the heart racing with its vibrant vibe. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff stand out as the real stars; they're super helpful and make you feel right at home, whether it's fetching drinks to your table or juggling a mad rush behind the bar. The music is always banging, with DJs and light shows that turn an ordinary night into something special, and they've cleverly incorporated nods to the city's music greats, which is just brilliant if you're a fan. On the flip side, it's not without its downsides – there are a couple of rules that might seem a bit strict, like the no-hat policy, which could put a dampener on things for some. Plus, it does get packed, so you might end up queuing for a drink or feeling the squeeze, and with it only open four days a week, it's not always easy to drop in. All in all, it's a solid choice for a fun night out if you're up for the atmosphere, but I'd say it's worth checking the schedule and dressing accordingly to make the most of it.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant – they're friendly, attentive, and go out of their way to make you feel welcome, like helping with drinks even on a packed Friday night.
-
The music and light shows are top-notch, creating a buzzing atmosphere where you can dance the night away to a great mix of tunes.
-
They've got an amazing selection of drinks, and it's always a treat to hear about the occasional free shots making the evening even more fun.
-
It's a proper nod to Manchester's music heritage, with walls and ceilings reflecting the local legends, which adds a real sense of character to the place.
Cons
-
There are some strict rules in place, like not being allowed to wear a cap, which might feel a bit off-putting if you're just popping in casually.
-
It can get incredibly busy at times, leading to waits at the bar or staff looking a tad overwhelmed, even if they're doing their best.
-
With it only open four days a week, you might have to plan ahead, which isn't ideal if you're in the mood for a spontaneous night out.

No more I love you's - not allowed in wearing a cap. Everyone dancing like no-one is watching - like Tim Booth does. Great lightshow, DJ and bar staff. The walls and ceiling reflect the greats of the Manchester music scene. Just need Frank Sidebottom's name somewhere.
Well popped into Northern Monkey today and there was only one member of staff behind the bar, we wanted food but the bar was really busy, had a couple of beers and then wanted food, Courtney behind the bar was like super woman, dealt with all the customers drink wise, collected all the glasses and then made the food for us, was like there were 5 members of staff on, thank you Courtney for making our visit very enjoyable and we will be visiting again 👍
Ethan was great, he looked after us, helped me take drinks back to our table even though it was a Friday night and very busy, what an absolutely lovely member of your team, a credit to you
