About This Pub

Ah, The New Oxford – what a lovely spot it is, tucked away in historic Bexley Square. I've got to say, it's one of those places that really hits the mark for a good night out; the beer selection is just superb, with all those ever-changing real ales and Belgian brews that keep things exciting every visit. The staff are an absolute delight, always ready with a smile and some solid advice on what to try next, which makes you feel right at home. Then there's the atmosphere – it's warm and buzzing, especially with the pub quizzes on Tuesdays or the open mic nights; it's brilliant for a laugh with friends or even catching the big football matches without it feeling too rowdy. They've thought of everything too, with outdoor seating for when the weather's on your side and a function room for if you're planning something a bit special. On the flip side, it can be a smidge off the beaten path if you're not local, and those Sunday hours do vary, so you might need to check ahead to avoid disappointment. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone after a proper pub experience – I'd definitely recommend popping in for a pint and seeing what all the fuss is about.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is absolutely brilliant – with over 40 draught options including 20 real ale pumps and a fantastic range of Belgian beers, it's a real treat for any ale enthusiast.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable; they'll help you pick the perfect pint and go the extra mile to make your visit memorable.
  • It has a warm, welcoming atmosphere with regular events like pub quizzes, open mic nights, and live sports screenings, making it a lively spot to catch up with mates.
  • Outdoor seating is a nice touch for sunnier days, and there's even a heated area for those chillier evenings, plus a function room that's perfect for smaller gatherings.
  • The pub feels clean and well-kept, especially after their recent refurb, and it's just a short walk from Salford Central, making it easy to pop in.
Cons
  • It might feel a tad out of the way if you're coming from the city centre, though it's still only a five-minute stroll from Salford Central.
  • The varying opening hours on Sundays could catch you out if you're planning a late one, as they sometimes close a bit earlier.
  • While the beer is top-notch, some might find the focus on ales and specialist drinks a bit overwhelming if you're after something simpler like a standard lager.

Beautiful spot for some quiet drinks with friends and family, so far have had a great experience with the staff. Especially Sally who’d let us stay long after close to get us more drinks, excellent effort to make us enjoy our experience at this cosy pub.

Spoilt for choice of beer here (and also Sports channels) - check the boards to see what’s pouring. If in doubt the knowledgeable bar staff will assist. Well worth seeking out - only 5 minutes from Salford Central.

Fantastic pub. Extensive back bar with lots of whisky, multiple guest ales and some of the best Guinness you’ll find outside of Ireland (although the head in one of my photos was slightly to big, it was still superb). Sport on the tv, but doesn’t distract from the craic. Staff always quick with their service. Really good.

Lovely traditional pub in Salford. Amazing selection of beer from keg cask and bottle. If you’re into belgium beers you’re in luck. Friendly service. Outside seating. A short walk from city centre. Recommended. 🍻 🇧🇪
