About This Pub
Ah, the Curious Cow of Harrogate – it's one of those places that feels like a proper local gem, you know? Tucked away in Killinghall, it's got this charming beer garden where you can while away an afternoon with good food and drinks, and they're spot on with their ethos of doing things right, from fresh steaks to those comforting Sunday roasts. I've heard loads of positive chatter about the staff being friendly and attentive, especially if you've got any dietary preferences; it's clear they put in the effort to make everyone feel looked after. Plus, with deals like 30% off mains, it's a budget-friendly option for catching up with friends over a meal. On the flip side, though, service isn't always up to scratch – some have had to chase for drinks or dealt with items not being available, which can put a dampener on things. And while the food's generally solid, it doesn't always wow you, more like reliably good rather than extraordinary. All in all, it's worth a visit if you're in the area, just go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a cracking time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The location is just brilliant, tucked away on the outskirts of Harrogate with a lovely beer garden that's perfect for soaking up the sun with a pint and some mates.
-
The food really hits the mark – fresh, well-cooked dishes like their steaks, hand-stretched pizzas, and those hearty Sunday roasts that leave you feeling properly satisfied.
-
Staff are generally warm and helpful, especially when it comes to dietary needs like gluten-free options; they handle it with care and no fuss at all.
-
It's super dog-friendly, which is a nice touch if you're popping in with your furry companion for a relaxed afternoon.
-
They've got some cracking offers, like 30% off mains, making it an affordable spot for a cheeky night out without breaking the bank.
Cons
-
Service can be a bit hit and miss, with some reports of slow waits for drinks or food, which might leave you twiddling your thumbs a bit too long.
-
Occasionally, certain items like pizzas aren't available, which can be a letdown if that's what you had your heart set on.
-
There are times when the overall experience feels inconsistent, with some visits being spot on and others falling a tad short on the finer details, like missing festive decorations during the holidays.
-
While the food is generally good, it's not always mind-blowing – a few folks have said it's just okay, rather than truly outstanding.

Great location and very nice decor, food was very good and staff friendly although unfortunately the service was quite poor. Had to chase up drinks on more than one occasion and they waited until we were ready to order to then tell us pizzas were not available, which was what half of our party wanted to order. Would go back though but would plan to stay a little longer to account for the slow service
Very slow service and it wasn't because they were busy. We finished our starters snd were sat with empty plates for over 30 minutes and then the server came with our mains so we had to remove our empties so she could put the mains down. No Christmas decorations in sight (from our table). Food OK but service and ambience lacking we won't be back.
What a great restaurant. The service was amazing very professional. Lucy was great and so accommodating. Definitely a good choice for well presented ans wholesome food. Highly recommended.
Very helpful staff and fully aware of Gluten free safety regards cross contamination.
My food was brought out with a GF flag in and on its own first. No fuss was made.
The food was fresh, piping hot and tasted delicious and my hubby enjoyed his non gluten free burger also. Keep up the great work. Compliments to the staff.
Stopped off on the way home from York, very busy but managed to fit us in. Ordered roasts and we were not disappointed. Food was really good, well cooked and presented. This place is obviously popular with locals and travellers alike as it really filled up while we were there. Tender beef great vegetables and proper Yorkshire pudding. If I had one criticism it would be that it needed a little more gravy, which by the way was really nice, deep rich flavour just needed a little more. Worth a visit 😊
