About This Pub
Ah, The Near Boot – what a gem of a pub in Carlisle! From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, it's got that warm, inviting charm that makes you want to settle in for the evening. The staff are absolute stars, always friendly and on point with service, which really sets the tone for a great visit. And the food? Well, it's the real highlight – think mouth-watering carvery and Sunday roasts that have people coming back for more, all home-cooked and generous portions that hit the spot. Plus, it's dog-friendly, so it's ideal if you're out with your four-legged mate. On the flip side, things aren't perfect; the prices can sting a bit, especially for starters, and there might be the odd mix-up with orders, but they handle it well by sorting it out on the house. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed meal or drink, as long as you book ahead to snag a spot – I'd say it's well worth a try if you're in the area and fancy a proper pub experience without any fuss.

Was recommended by two sales assistants in Asda Carlisle and they were correct with their recommendation.
The staff were inviting and friendly. Our food and drink order was taken promptly. It was probably the best carvery I have ever had.
Pricing was not that bad either.
The best Sunday roast I have ever had definitely coming back next weekend really good for money but definitely book a table as they get fully booked and also dog friendly
The food was delicious, very well presented, and smelt amazing. The atmosphere was quiet for a Saturday night. Service was good except for forgetting an order that had been added on. However, they did give us it for free.
The only thing I would say is the food is very expensive. Starters range from £8-£10, mains £14-£25 and desserts from £8 too. 3 courses, plus drinks, came to roughly £50 each. I would expect this for inner city Birmingham or London, not Carlisle.
It seems very overpriced for where it is and for what you get.
Found this place on Saturday 11th Jan in the evening. First of all the lady on the other end of the phone when I rang up was so friendly. This was a bonus from the word go. Sounded very welcoming. Meal was gorgeous. We had the sirloin steak and deluxe burger all of which were home cooked and generous portion size. Desserts were lovely as well. We had our cockapoo with us. He loved it. Was given a bowl of water. We were sat by the log fire which was just lovely and added to the atmosphere. Not too busy either but as we were leaving around 8.30pm it started to get a bit busier. The young man and lady serving us were really nice. I asked how the pub got its name and the lady took the time to tell me the story of how it got its name. My husband went to the bar and also commented on how friendly the lady behind the bar was too. Would definitely recommend this lovely place and we would definitely return. Thankyou
First time dining here today, and it won't be the last ! The pub is much larger than I expected and is very nicely decorated with a lovely roaring fire on a very cold day . The staff were very welcoming and efficient, the food was excellent with a very varied menu,my daughter said the steak pie was the best she had tasted! I took a taste too...and yes it was exceedingly good!!!
I look forward to visiting again.
