About This Pub

You know, when I think about The Nag's Head, it's one of those spots that really captures the heart of a good old London pub – all rustic and inviting, right in the thick of Wood Green. I've heard from a few folks that it's brilliant for a casual get-together; the atmosphere is spot on, with plenty of screens for watching sports and even a couple of pool tables to keep things lively. The drinks menu is a real winner too – they've got this massive range of craft beers, ales, and spirits that could keep you exploring for ages, and the food isn't half bad either, with sharing plates and burgers that go down a treat. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing; some mates have mentioned getting overlooked at the bar when it's packed, which can put a dampener on the evening. Still, with a solid overall rating, it feels like they're onto something good, especially if you time your visit right. All in all, I'd say it's worth popping in for a pint or two, just keep an eye out for those busier moments – it's a gem with a bit of rough around the edges, but that's what makes it feel authentic.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's got a really lively and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for catching up with mates or watching the big game on their screens.
  • An impressive selection of drinks, from craft beers and cask ales to gins, rums, and even a cracking wine list.
  • The food hits the spot with tasty options like sharers, tapas, burgers, and some classic pub dishes that satisfy all sorts of cravings.
  • Friendly staff who generally make you feel right at home, especially when it's not too hectic.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit hit and miss, with some reports of being ignored at the bar during busy times.
  • Under new ownership, which might lead to a few teething issues or confusion, like changes to the menu or loyalty apps.
  • They could do with more staff on hand when things get crowded, as it sometimes slows everything down.

Visited this evening. At first we enjoyed the ambience and atmosphere however when my friend went to the bar to buy our second drinks she was ignored and not served. My friend told me she tried to grab the staff's attention however she ignored her and served the next customer. The next customer apologised for her ignoring my friend but this behaviour is totally unacceptable and seriously has to be addressed. We were not able to purchase any drinks so had no option but to leave.

This pub is as of very recently under new ownership and no longer part of the Stonesgate Group. You won’t be able to use the MIXR app here to gain or redeem points. I’m not quite sure who the current owner is, but the menu mentions ‘Dunning’s Irish bar’. Is the name being changed again? Please can we keep its historic title? It’s early days, but the drink prices seem to have gone up a bit and the menu is reduced and more costly. The attractive lunch time food+beer deals are gone. Please know I did not eat here and my review of the food is just based on the options and cost and that’s why I didn’t eat here. (On the menu, you can’t get chips as a side. On the menu, it doesn’t say the burgers include chips. ?!?) I hope this place improves its options and costs as unfortunately Wetherspoons across the road is looking more favourable.

Great place to watch sport. Food was really good too, esp considering it was a really busy Saturday afternoon. Could do with more bar staff when it's busy but the ones that were there were doing their best and very pleasant. Will definitely visit again.

Use this as a meeting point just before the darts on the 23rd of December. Obviously lots of others was using it as well. It's a massive pub. Seems to have a good vibe. Only had a couple here but it was good

The Nag's Head Pub on Wood Green High Street is a lively and enjoyable spot, perfect for those looking for a vibrant atmosphere. The pub features two pool tables, which are a great addition for anyone who enjoys a casual game while socializing. There are also plenty of screens, making it an excellent choice for watching live sports. Being located on a busy high street, you can expect a mix of people, which adds to the energy and character of the place. The pub itself is well-maintained and has a welcoming vibe, although it’s worth noting there’s no parking nearby, so plan your visit accordingly. Overall, it’s a solid choice for a lively evening out or catching a game with friends.
