About This Pub
Ah, The Mixing House, what a gem in Derby! I've got to say, it's one of those places that just lifts your spirits the moment you walk in, with its playful decor and that inviting roof terrace that's perfect for soaking up the city atmosphere on a sunny day. The cocktails are where they really shine – they're creative, well-made, and there's something for everyone, whether you're after something strong and spirited or a bit more fruity and fun. Pair that with their delicious tapas dishes, which are ideal for sharing and full of flavour, and you've got a recipe for a brilliant evening. The team there are an absolute delight too; they're quick to refill your glass and make sure you're having a great time, just like in those glowing reviews from folks who've celebrated birthdays or enjoyed a bottomless brunch. On the flip side, though, the opening hours can be a tad unreliable – it's not open every day, and there might be times it's closed when you fancy a visit, so planning ahead is key. Plus, while the prices are generally fair, those little extras on the menu can sneak up on you, so keep an eye on the bill. All in all, it's a fantastic spot if you're up for a lively cocktail adventure, but it's worth noting the quirks to avoid any disappointments. I'd definitely recommend giving it a go if you're in the area – it's got that warm, welcoming feel that makes you want to come back for more.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The cocktails are an absolute treat – they've got a fantastic variety, from fiery numbers like the Chilli and Cucumber Margarita to refreshing ones like the Lavender Tom Collins, and they're all made with real flair.
-
The tapas-style dishes are spot on for sharing with mates; think tasty options that are great value and perfect for a casual get-together.
-
The staff are brilliant – super attentive and friendly, making you feel right at home, whether it's during a bottomless brunch or just a regular visit.
-
The atmosphere is lively and fun, with cheeky selfie walls and a Cloud 9 Roof Terrace that's ideal for unwinding, especially with those heating lamps on chillier evenings.
-
It's a welcoming spot in the heart of Derby, offering a vibrant party vibe that's perfect for celebrations or a relaxed night out.
Cons
-
The operating hours can be a bit tricky to pin down, with the place only open a few days a week and some inconsistencies in the schedule, so it's worth double-checking before heading out.
-
While the main offerings are good value, you might end up paying extra for sides like fries or halloumi, which could add up if you're not careful.
-
It seems like they might not always be open when you'd expect, given the current status, so that could put a dampener on spontaneous plans.
-
Bottomless brunch is mentioned as coming soon on their site, but some folks have already enjoyed it, which might mean availability varies – could be hit or miss.

Came here on Saturday for a friend's birthday. Amazing food from Hogbroast, my partner and I had the mexican sharer and it was so tasty and great value for money! All cocktails were great too!
Brilliant!! We did the bottomless Prosecco lunch. We were soooo well looked after by Ola and the team. Whereas at places like cosy club where they try to limit your drinks Ola and the team were keen to treat us to as many drinks as we could consume. Atmosphere was great. Team were great. Food was lovely. Couldn't have asked for more. We will be back!!
Came for bottomless brunch with a friend! The service was ONIT refilling and very attentive! Food was lovely!
Was £35 per head but we had all the drinks twice in a 90mins seating! Fries and halloumi was extra!
Really interesting environment. Great place to hangout! The cocktail waitress was very talented and kind.
The roof top is nice and has heating lamps.
Great mix of both girly drinks and strong rum and whiskey drinks. I was recommended by a local to check the place out and I'm glad I was. I had a great time!
Brilliant place. Decided to take the Mrs here for food as it was a place that served sharing plates.
Surprised the ribs were a full rack rather then a few.
The loaded fries were huge, we probably ordered too much.
Staff were brilliant. And the cocktails were amazing, great variety and something for everyone.
One grumble, ribs were over cooked, but the staff asked when taking the food away if there was a problem.
The fact that want to learn and put things right for the future is impressive.
Brilliant. We will be back
