About This Pub

Ah, The Mitre – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot every time I swing by. You know how it is, you're after a place that's got that proper old-school London charm without feeling stuffy, and this spot delivers in spades. The beers are a highlight; they've always got an interesting lineup of ales and ciders that keep things exciting, and pairing them with those fresh pizzas makes for a brilliant combo – I reckon it's some of the best grub you'll find in the area. The staff are dead friendly too, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, whether you're just popping in for a quick one or hosting something bigger like a birthday bash in the garden. On the flip side, the hours can be a bit tricky to pin down, especially if you're planning around those variable Sunday slots, and it's tucked away in a quieter part of Richmond, which might mean it's not the easiest to stumble upon if you're new to the neighbourhood. All in all, though, it's a welcoming little haven that I'd happily recommend for a laid-back evening – just remember to check the times and enjoy the vibe!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is absolutely spot on – they've got a fantastic range of cask ales, ciders, and craft brews that change regularly, making every visit feel fresh and exciting.
  • The pizzas are a real treat; freshly made in-house and packed with flavour, they're perfect to pair with a pint, and I've heard they're among the best in Richmond.
  • It's got such a warm, welcoming vibe with friendly staff who make you feel right at home, plus it's dog-friendly and has a cosy beer garden for those sunny days.
  • The historic setting is charming – tucked away in a quiet residential spot with leather Chesterfields and a wood burner, it's ideal for relaxing with mates over live music or events.
  • They host brilliant events like Sunday gatherings, and the team goes above and beyond for special occasions, making it a top choice for birthdays or even weddings.
Cons
  • The opening hours can be a bit inconsistent or confusing at times, especially on Sundays when they vary, so it's worth checking ahead to avoid disappointment.
  • Being in a residential area, it might feel a tad out of the way if you're not familiar with Richmond, though that's part of its quaint appeal.
  • Prices are moderate, but with the quality on offer, some might find it adds up if you're settling in for a long session.

Without doubt the best pub in the area! Everything is faultless, the service is knowledgeable and attentive; the beer selection is fantastic (4 ciders, 7 cask and 4 keg + 2 decent lagers all of which are changing and interesting); prices are reasonable; styling and decor is traditional and interesting; being away from Richmond centre means the ambience is more relaxed, local and welcoming; the outside space is a decent size and pleasant with wisteria growing across the yard; the pizza options are excellent and good quality; an absolutely brilliant pub!

Chris and the team were brilliant! We hosted my wife’s 30th birthday in the pub garden and it was fantastic. Amazing pizzas, they had a great system of delivering pizzas to our big group and everyone was really happy. Couldn’t have picked a better place for a relaxed but private birthday party!

We had our wedding reception here and it was the BEST decision ever. Chris, Matt the team were the so relaxed and helped facilitate anything we needed. The food was amazing and they let us decorate, have a Photo Booth and even let our guests pull pints 🤣.

By far the best pub in Richmond. We regularly go to the Mitre, as they serve really fresh cask ales that change regularly. They also serve fantastic pizza’s where you can choose your own toppings or have the monthly special. We often get the dough balls as they are the perfect accompaniment to a few pints! Definitely get down there if your in the area!
