About This Pub

Ah, The Marlborough in Richmond – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot on a lazy afternoon or after a nice stroll by the river. From what I've gathered from folks' chats online, the place has this lovely cosy atmosphere that makes you want to settle in with a good drink and maybe a bite to eat. The staff really shine through, being so friendly and helpful; it's like they're old mates making sure you're looked after. And the food? Well, most rave about the roast dinners and fish and chips – proper tasty grub that keeps people coming back. Plus, it's ace for dog owners, adding to that community feel. On the flip side, though, there have been a few grumbles about meals not quite hitting the mark, like one person mentioning a cold pork belly that needed sending back, which is a shame when the rest is so solid. All in all, I'd say it's a solid choice for a pint and a chat, but maybe keep expectations in check for the food to avoid any surprises. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth popping in for the experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely cosy and inviting, perfect for a relaxing pint after a riverside walk.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you step in.
  • Food options are spot on, with standout dishes like the roast dinner and fish and chips that leave you wanting more.
  • It's wonderfully dog-friendly, so you can bring your furry mate along for the outing.
  • They've got a great vibe for all sorts of visits, whether you're catching up with friends or even working on something quietly.
Cons
  • Food quality can be a bit inconsistent at times, like with some reports of dishes arriving cold or overly fatty.
  • The pub's operating hours might seem a tad confusing from what's listed, so it's worth double-checking before heading out.
  • With such high praise overall, the occasional letdown stands out more, especially if you're after a flawless meal.

Recent Reviews

I recently visited the Marlborough pub in Richmond after a lovely stroll along the river. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting. What truly made my experience stand out was the exceptional service, particularly from bartender Dan, who was not only friendly and attentive but also quite good looking and we had a great chat. The food was delicious, with the pork roast being a highlight. Highly recommend the Marlborough for a great meal and welcoming atmosphere

Today was our first visit because we were looking to find the best roast dinner in Richmond. If you’re looking for the same come to this place and you won’t be disappointed. The food was outstanding, the service so nice and the atmosphere very friendly and cosy. We will be coming back soon!

We came here as the google reviews were good and they were dog friendly. However the food wasn’t great. One of us ordered the pork belly which was cold and had to get sent back. The second round, the pork belly was very fatty and the meat part was very dry and hard. The crackling was so hard we couldn’t bite into it. The staff told us this was normal that it’s hard. We also ordered the roast beef which was very chewy, it was a struggle to cut into it and eat. The staff suggested to change a new one that has less fat in it. I did see her go into the kitchen to change it herself and making sure it was better slices which was appreciated. The second one was better, but it wasn’t tender. After changing our dish once, the second round still wasn’t great. The staff did come and offer us steak knives to help eat. At this point we were really hungry and couldn’t ask to change it again. The Yorkshire puddings were huge but they were dry and hard. The vegetables were okay, nothing exciting. We were quite disappointed in the Sunday roast. Staff were nice and tried their best to make it better. It’s a nice looking pub but don’t think we will return for the food.

Wow what an amazing experience. The staff are so friendly and kind. Usha , katy, Jerry and ani were helpful and served the best vegan roast. I loved it and will return. I love how it's dog friendly and enjoyed meeting a few friends. I will bring my cavalier in the early summer on my next uk visit. Love katie
