About This Pub

Ah, the Dukes Head Inn – it's one of those places that just warms your heart the moment you step inside. Run by the lovely Pat and Mairead for over two decades, it's got that perfect blend of traditional English charm with a dash of Irish hospitality, making it feel like you're catching up with old mates rather than just visiting a pub. Folks rave about the food; whether it's the hearty breakfasts with a bit of an Irish flair or the solid pub meals, it's all spot on and hits the spot after a day of wandering around Richmond's beautiful parks and the Thames. The location's a winner too – tucked away on a quiet slope but still an easy stroll to the high street and some iconic sights, it's ideal if you're after that authentic local experience without the hustle and bustle. On the flip side, while the rooms are clean and offer a good night's sleep, they're a tad outdated, which might not thrill everyone, especially if you're used to slicker setups. And do keep an eye on those booking rules; they're straightforward but can be a bit unforgiving if life throws a curveball. All in all, it's a gem for a laid-back pint and a stay that feels genuine, but it's worth knowing what you're in for to avoid any surprises – I'd say it's best for those who appreciate the simple pleasures of a proper English inn.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The friendly hosts and staff, like Mairead and Pat, make you feel right at home with their warm Irish charm and top-notch hospitality.
  • The food and drinks are absolutely spot on – think hearty English breakfasts with a twist, fantastic pub grub, and a great selection of beers, wines, and spirits.
  • It's in a brilliant location on Richmond Hill, just a short walk from the Thames, parks, and even Ted Lasso spots, making it ideal for exploring.
  • The pub has a lovely traditional vibe where you can chat and laugh without any loud music blaring, perfect for a peaceful pint.
  • Rooms are clean and spacious, offering comfortable overnight stays, especially if you're after that authentic English inn experience.
Cons
  • The rooms can feel a bit dated, even if they're clean and functional, so it might not suit those after something more modern.
  • Cancellation policies are a tad strict – you might lose your deposit if plans change last minute, so it's worth double-checking.
  • No clear operating hours listed, which could be a hassle if you're popping by unexpectedly, and it seems like it might not always be open.
  • Being in a quiet residential area is charming, but it could feel a little out of the way if you're keen on more lively spots nearby.

Beautiful one of a kind place near the center of Richmond within walking distance of the princes head pub and the Ted Lasso sights. If you're wanting to act like a local for the night this is the place you want to stay and have a few pints. Great rooms, great pub and good food too!

Rooms are clean. Food is fantastic. Owners and Christina behind the bar are perfect hosts. Have stayed there 9 weeks so far over the years. Recommend to all American tourists. Would not stay anywhere else!

A local pub in the old tradition where people meet and talk , laugh and have a drink with good food without the preferred background of so called music of the modern bars....peace in Richmond..please may it continue in its delights...and if you need a room for the night it is there also ...
