About This Pub

Ah, The Mitre – it's one of those timeless pubs that just feels like a proper British gem, tucked away in the centre of Cambridge with its rich history and welcoming vibe. From what I've gathered from folks who've popped in, the food is a real highlight; think hearty pies, delicious fish and chips with proper gravy and vinegar, and even massive portions that leave you satisfied. The staff are brilliant, always on hand to make sure everything runs smoothly, and there's a cracking selection of ales to wash it all down. It's a fantastic spot for catching up with mates over a pint or tucking into some traditional fare. On the downside, it can get a bit too buzzing at peak times, with the noise and crowds making it harder to hear yourself think, and service might drag a little when they're flat out. Still, if you're up for a lively atmosphere and don't mind the occasional wait, it's well worth a visit for that authentic pub experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on, with standout dishes like those magnificent pies and classic fish and chips that really hit the spot.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready with a smile and top-notch service that makes you feel right at home.
  • It's got a charming historic atmosphere in the heart of Cambridge, perfect for soaking up that traditional pub vibe while enjoying a great selection of ales.
  • The central location makes it super convenient for a quick stop or a relaxed evening out.
Cons
  • It can get pretty busy and noisy at times, which might make it a bit overwhelming if you're after a quiet chat.
  • Service can slow down when things are hectic, so you might have to wait a tad longer for your order.
  • There have been a few mishaps with reservations, like tables not being quite where they're supposed to be, which can throw a spanner in the works.

Central location, nice atmosphere, good staff and service. A pint change my mind to be back again. Surely recommend.

Very nice lunch experience. Friendly staff, very good food (especially the gravy, and bonus points for proper vinegar for the fish & chips), quite good ale selection and cozy atmosphere.

As an American, I had to try proper fish and chips. The food was delicious. The portions were huge. The peas are nothing like in America — they are delicious. They were really busy and so service was pretty slow. The atmosphere was great and all of the staff was lovely.

Excellent pub with speciality pies (magnificent) and their own (very tasty) Pale Ale. Fish & chips done in a very light batter. Atmosphere a bit too busy & noisy for some. They’d got our reservation but “lost” our table so we ended up eating in the bar area, but they handled it well.

We had lunch here and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The Mitre has welcoming staff and excellent service. Our food came fairly quick and delivered in quality and flavour. We enjoyed all our dishes especially the Steak and the Burger. To finish we tried their Sticky Toffee Pudding which was amazing; it was rich and light and the ice cream complimented it well. The atmosphere and the dog friendly aspect was great detail as well. I will definitely be back!
