About This Pub
You know, when I think about The Orator, it's got this lovely mix of history and homeliness, being part of the Cambridge Union and all. The food really shines through – I've heard brilliant things about the crispy gnocchi and that Sunday roast, which sounds like a proper treat, all freshly cooked and generous enough to leave you stuffed in the best way. The staff are just top-notch, always on hand with a smile and quick service that makes you feel looked after. It's ideal for a casual get-together with mates or even a family meal, and the central spot means it's dead easy to get to. On the downside, the menu doesn't offer a huge variety, so if you're in the mood for something specific, you might end up a bit disappointed. Still, overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed outing – I'd say give it a go if you're in Cambridge, as the positives definitely outweigh the niggles.

Had lunch from the weekday set menu as part of a large group and it was great. The crispy gnocchi way exceeded expectations - they were seriously delicious and the portion was very generous. The aubergine katsu was also really good. I left completely stuffed, but looking forward to coming back soon.
I had the most wonderful experience! The service was absolutely fantastic—every staff member was super friendly.
A big shoutout to Aysh the bartender ! He really took the experience to the next level. It really stands out when you have a bartender who knows the drinks menu inside out and he recommended me some drinks based off my tastes.
All in all, this was an amazing experience from beginning to end. I can’t wait to go back and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for amazing food, drinks, and outstanding service!
Limited Menu
Trying to review Cambridge pubs therefore entered this restaurant.
The food is not the most expensive, but the menu is very limited.
Nothing wrong for limited choices, as soon as everything is fine I guess?
The portions were bigger than Greene King pubs but smaller than the Cambridge Chop House.
The fries and the roast potatoes were good, I thought the restaurant uses good quality potatoes. The fries were hot.
The beef of the Sunday roast tasted good, no strange smell.
But the burger was very lean with dry texture, I needed to dip the burger with the gravy of the Sunday Roast to finish.
With such a limited menu, I think the restaurant needs to offer something signature to stand out in such a competitive place.
Otherwise it would be a waste for such a lovely and quiet environment.
I had the best Sunday roast at the Orator. I had Porchetta and my boyfriend had Roast beef. Everything was freshly cooked. Not frozen like at some places. Our waiter Lilly was very nice and attentive. Pistachio chocolate desert was a nice finish.
This is a very nice place to dine in with family or friends. It is quite a big restaurant, in the city centre, but still feels cosy. It is within minutes/ walking distance from the Grand Arcade and it might be best to use the Lion Yard parking. The staff are polite and friendly. There are many pictures of celebrities on the walls and the ambience is fantastic. There is a piano in one of the halls and you might even hear the live music in the background, although this was not the case when we visited the place today. The prices are reasonable. It’s worth mentioning that the restaurant adds a service charge to the final bill. Overall we had a great time and enjoyed dining at the Orator.
