About This Pub
Ah, Hidden Rooms in Cambridge – what a lovely spot it is, tucked away in a historic basement that feels like stepping back in time. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the cocktails are a standout; they're creative, delicious, and served with such enthusiasm that you can't help but feel spoiled. The staff really shine too, with folks like Marcus turning a simple drink into an interactive adventure, whether it's through cocktail classes or just a chat over your order. It's brilliant for all sorts of occasions – from a quiet romantic evening to lively group events – and the atmosphere is just spot on, with live music adding that extra warmth. On the flip side, though, I've heard a few grumbles about events not always hitting the mark, like the NYE bash where the music fell a bit flat for some. And with it only open a few days a week, you might find yourself planning ahead more than you'd like, especially if tables go quick. All in all, it's a gem worth visiting if you're in the mood for something special, but just keep those expectations in check for the bigger nights out.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The cocktails are absolutely spot on – creative, well-crafted, and full of flavour, like that clear espresso martini that's a real crowd-pleaser.
-
The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable, especially hosts like Marcus who go the extra mile with entertaining stories and personalised service during classes or events.
-
It's a hidden gem in a historic Victorian basement, perfect for romantic dates, casual drinks, or special occasions, with a cosy atmosphere and live music that adds to the vibe.
-
They offer fantastic interactive experiences like cocktail classes and dance workshops, which are great fun and excellent value, making it ideal for groups or celebrations.
-
Being reservation-only means you get seated service without the hassle, and it's in the heart of Cambridge, making it easy to plan a lovely night out.
Cons
-
Some events, like the NYE party, might have disappointing music or DJ choices that don't quite match the occasion, leaving you wanting a bit more energy.
-
The bar staff could be a tad more attentive at times, though they're not bad overall – it's just that little extra polish might make the experience even smoother.
-
With limited operating days (only open three days a week), it can be tricky to pop in spontaneously, and tables book up quickly, especially for popular events like Christmas parties.

Such a great bar for casual or romantic drinks, a real hidden gem indeed, all of their drinks are spot on and clear espresso martini is really entertaining, staffs are super friendly too and the vibes are great, would definitely return soon
We booked an Ultimate Rum Cocktail Making Class and it was superb. Marcus is a very gracious and friendly host with incredible cocktail knowledge.
Plenty of interesting stories and tidbits about whatever drink you're making. Really goes the extra mile to explain how and why each spirit and cocktail came to be, and these cocktails were simply some of the yummiest we've ever had.
The expereince lasts 2.5 hours. Marcus greeted us with a glass of proseco each for our first 5 minutes settling in, then we tried 4 shots of rum (holding them on the tongue and noting the differences) before making 4 cocktails: an Old Fashioned, a Strawberry Dacquiri, a Batida and finally a Mai Tai.
These cocktails were so so good, really smooth and refreshing. Marcus' instructions were really easy to follow and you really felt like you learned a lot over the afternoon. Each instruction has a well-explained reason so you really appreciated why you were doing each step.
Marcus was also very generous enough to explain his Irish twist on a Jungle Bird which was just delicious - the drink is not always available so if its on the menu, definitely order it!
We weren't aware before arriving in Cambridge, but The Hidden Rooms has an exclusive 12% discount deal with a local hotel - The Fellows - next time we're in Cambridge, we'll definitely be taking the offer!
A massive thank you to Marcus!!!! I booked a cocktail class for my GF birthday and it was made to be a very intimate and an informative event.
We arrived early and Marcus was happy to open the entire venue for just us 2!!! We had a table to welcome us with a bespoke welcome and birthday message.
We learned lots about cocktail making and it's history. The day was both fun and informative. We were not confined to what we booked, Marcus showed a passion for his craft and invited us to try things for free as we were inquisitive and at no extra fee.
Hugely recommend!!!! My partner was so impressed she will be returning with a bridal group in the future!!
Well done Marcus and hidden rooms.
Massive thank you!!!!
Attended the NYE club event. Great venue with lots of potential. However the music / DJ selection was awful, especially for a NYE event. Drinks were reasonably priced and bar staff could’ve been a little better but weren’t bad by any means. Crowd was probably 30-50s, little older than we had envisioned.
We attended one of the Ultimate Experience Rum cocktail classes on Saturday. It was very good value for money. It was so informative, entertaining and one of the best classes I’ve been to. They are exceptionally good at what they do and the venue is the perfect place to host it. The cocktails were amazing! We are very excited to go back for an evening of cocktails!
