About This Pub

Ah, The Miners – it's one of those local gems that you stumble upon and think, 'Why haven't I been here more often?' From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got that warm, community feel with its mining heritage decor splashed across the walls, really bringing a bit of Ashington's history to life. The drinks are a highlight; they're cheap and there's a good variety, so you can enjoy a pint or two without worrying about the tab. Plus, with the jukebox pumping out tunes and options for a game of pool or darts, it's easy to settle in for a laugh with friends. On the upside, folks have raved about the clean, updated interior and the generally helpful service that keeps things running smoothly. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – there are times when the staff might seem a tad grumpy, or the vibe on busier nights doesn't quite hit the mark, leaving you wishing for a bit more energy. Still, with a solid 4.3 rating overall, it's clear this place does a lot right, and if you're after an unpretentious spot to unwind, I'd say give it a go. Just keep in mind it might be more your speed for a chilled afternoon pint rather than a wild night out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The drinks are really affordable, making it a great spot for a budget-friendly night out without breaking the bank.
  • They've got a lovely mining heritage theme throughout the place, which adds a nice touch of local history and makes it feel welcoming and unique.
  • There's plenty to keep you entertained with a jukebox, pool tables, and a dart board – perfect for a casual evening with mates.
  • The decor is clean and updated, giving off a fresh vibe that's comfortable and well-maintained.
  • Service is generally spot on, with friendly staff and quick attention that makes you feel right at home.
Cons
  • Some evenings can feel a bit off, like on Saturdays, where the atmosphere might not live up to expectations and could come across as underwhelming.
  • There's been a mention of less than cheerful bar staff on occasion, which might put a damper on the overall experience if you're after a lively chat.
  • It seems like the place has changed over time, and not everyone thinks it's as vibrant as it used to be, which could disappoint if you're expecting a buzzing night.
  • Food options are limited, with just things like toasties when available, so it might not satisfy if you're looking for a proper meal.

it should change its name to minors ! used to be a good place to start a night out, the decor is ok ,even if it is a poor copy of the grand , drinks are cheap and a good variety , the most sour faced bar maid you will ever see , 2 decent pool tables , good juke box. saturday night is now just borderline age limit kids snorting coke in the toilets . even bubbles would think twice about letting some of them in , and that place has NO standards ! will still return in future , but probably not till they sort out the kids and drugs problem . 1 star at the moment, but used to be a solid 4

Inside the bar has been updated to a high standard for the area. Sound, company with a hard working background..

Attended a party upstairs recently, pleasant decor, clean and tidy including the toilets and drinks were a decent price and fitted in well with surrounding area prices. Bar area downstairs was pleasantly decorated with mining heritage and local history hence the name. Non of this theme carried on upstairs in their function room. I would have gave 5 stars but due to lack of windows (there was zero) or air conditioning the room quickly became a humid sauna full of people wiping down body parts with no will to move let alone dance much. If they were to address this issue it has the potential to be one of the best function rooms around with a bit of advertising and some word of mouth.

A relaxing and welcoming atmosphere awaits you at this pub which is decorated with the mining heritage and cultural history of Ashington in mind.. The beer prices here are very reasonable and there's a juke box and two pool tables aswell as a dart board to be found here.
