Generous George - The Old Ash Dene in Ashington

pop into the old Ash dene yesterday I love this pub all the staff are friendly and very helpful. also massive shout out to Dan the chef my pizza was absolutely delicious

We popped in for a quiet lunch to an almost empty lounge and sat in a booth. Decor was attractive and clean but there was something not quite fung shui about the layout which made me feel a little uncomfortable. I've never felt this before. The staff were excellent, very friendly, enthusiastic and efficient. The food came out very quickly and in spite of the inappropriately high local rating was fairly average pub grub. (It appears to be a chain, but I hadn't heard of Generous George.) Good chips etc. good scampi but my pie had scant filling compared to the crust, so a bit stodgy - and not very tasty - saved only by the gravy. But the prices were very reasonable - two drinks plus meals for £24. A group of eight very loud mouthed women came in (why do they shout when standing next to each other?) and sat adjacent, then racked up the pool table (ten feet away) and this was shockingly loud and shattered the peace. We would go again but not sit near the pool table and not order the pie. I wonder what advantage the pool table has over several more tables and also wonder if anyone has done a cost/profit analysis.

Sunday afternoon... full of kids 10-13 year olds playing darts and pool. They are walking backwards and forwards behind customer chairs to the bar for drinks and change! Parents oblivious

Absolutely delicious! The food was lovely, served quickly & Priced very well. Also lots of choice for a vegetarian like myself. Really pleasant atmosphere with plenty of seats. The guy behind the bar with the dark hair who served me yesterday at (1pm-ish) lunchtime was on his own & couldn't be more helpful. 10/10 for his attitude, cheerfulness & customer service. We were made to feel, like always, very very welcome. We'll definitely be back!
