About This Pub

Ah, Old Ash Dene – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a warm hug when you walk in, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are top-notch, always with a smile and ready to make your visit memorable, whether you're there for a cheeky pint in the beer garden or tucking into some seriously good food like their burgers or a traditional Sunday roast. They've got these great deals, like 30% off mains, which is a real winner for keeping things affordable, and the atmosphere is just spot on for families or a casual catch-up with friends. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – it can get absolutely rammed at times, making it a bit of a squeeze to find a spot, and I've heard a few tales of grubby areas that could do with a wipe-down, which might put a dampener on things. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.3, it's clear most folks leave with a smile, so if you're heading out for a pint or a meal, I'd say give it a go – just maybe avoid the rush hours for the best experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and really make you feel welcome, with that friendly, chatty vibe that turns a simple visit into a proper good time.
  • The food is spot on – think tasty burgers, hearty Sunday roasts, and even some cracking offers like 30% off mains, which is a brilliant way to treat yourself without breaking the bank.
  • It's got a great family-friendly atmosphere, perfect for popping in with the kids or catching up with mates, plus there's a smashing beer garden for enjoying a pint in the sunshine.
  • A wide selection of drinks on tap, including real ales and cocktails, means there's something for everyone, whether you're after a quick after-work fizz or a relaxed evening.
  • The service is quick and efficient, with options like QR code ordering that make things easy-peasy, and they've got fun events like quiz nights to keep things lively.
Cons
  • It can get pretty busy, especially during peak times, which might mean waiting for a table or dealing with a bit of a hustle and bustle that could spoil the mood.
  • There have been a few gripes about cleanliness in some spots, like grubby walls in certain areas, which isn't ideal when you're trying to enjoy your meal.
  • Occasionally, things like table reservations don't go smoothly, so if you're planning ahead, it's worth double-checking to avoid any disappointments.

Happy meal
One of my lovely locals! Joanne and the team give the best service and the food is always lovely. I was fortunate to have one of the Tuesday quiz nights recently to help me to raise money for Blood Cancer UK in memory of my Dad. I managed to raise over £1300. Joanne promoted my event page, made sure I had tables booked for family and friends, I had an area to set up the raffle prizes and donated a couple of prizes to the raffle as well. I’m extremely grateful for the support.

Welcomed by the friendly staff when we entered the pub and shown to the table which we had reserved. Ordered drinks and food and received the food in good time, in spite of the pub being busy. Staff were all excellent and friendly and the food was good and plentiful. It is always a very pleasant experience to go with friends and The Old Ash Dene has become our most regular place to visit for a get together. Thank you to all invloved.

Staff were lovely and friendly. We visited when pub was very busy, lots of tables reserved, one we asked about was reserved 3/4 of an hour after our arival, the booking hadn't shown by the time we left, which was a shame as we could have had a bigger table away from the noise. Food was good for the price & we didn't have to wait too long even though it was extremely busy. The only thing that let it down was not the pubs fault, there were screaming children in the play area, arguing and shouting. Another table had vacated so we moved, unfortunately some of the children thought it was OK to come and start trying to get out of the firedoor directly behind us & when it didn't work they started banging on it, they then went outside and started banging on the outside trying to open it. It was a cold evening and the glass firedoor was directly behind my seat. I'm not sure what the children were playing at, but they didn't need to use that door at all. Parents paid no attention. As I say, not the staff or establishments fault as they were extremely friendly, the place looked nice and the food was decent for the price. I was told the garlic doughballs were the best my husband had tried & the fish was moby dick sized.

We walked in, got a table, looked around, the wall next to the table was very dirty, (table no 22 , as far as recall) near the main door, looked like someone had thrown some food at it, not a good start (See photos) But the rest of the restaurant looked in good order, and clean. Anyway, decided on the prawn cocktail and the dough balls for starters, (see photos) the prawn cocktail, was so small, came in this tiny little wee glass, wish I had ordered two of them. The dough balls, well they're ok, but not very cheesy, just doughy. We both ordered the chicken club sandwich as a main, oh no, I thought things couldn't get any worse, but it did. The bread was white bread (We both really wanted the brown, ok, my fault for forgetting to tell the server, but then I think we should have been asked aswell) Anyway, the bread should be lightly toasted for a club sandwich, but this was like eating dry crackers! Toasted all the way through, brittle as my bones! So dry that it just broke up, as you were trying to eat it. Not much mayo or anything on it, even a little tomato on it would have help with eating the crackers! We didn't even get asked if everything was ok, as you normally do at any other establishment. So, verdict-place is a little dirty, staff not attentive, food portion size needs to be looked at, and the quality of basic food ie brittle bone toast, needs to be looked at.
