About This Pub

Ah, The Metropole in Gateshead – it's one of those pubs that feels like a proper community spot, you know? I have to say, the prices on drinks are spot on, so you can enjoy a pint or two without worrying about the wallet. The staff and regulars seem really approachable, and they've got little touches like card bingo that make evenings more fun. It's got that solid 4.2 rating, which speaks to the good times folks have had. But let's be honest, it's not all roses; I've heard a few tales of drinks not tasting quite right, and the place can feel a bit worn with sticky floors and a downbeat atmosphere now and then. Still, if you're after an inexpensive local haunt, it's worth popping in for a try – just keep an eye on what you're ordering to avoid any disappointments.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The drinks are reasonably priced, making it a great spot for a budget-friendly night out with mates.
  • You'll find a welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff and locals, perfect for a chat and a laugh.
  • They offer fun activities like card bingo, which adds a bit of entertainment to your visit.
  • The pub is generally kept clean, which makes for a more enjoyable time overall.
Cons
  • Some drinks have been reported as tasting off, like soda water or line cleaner, which could put a dampener on things.
  • The carpets can be sticky and the atmosphere a tad depressing at times, taking away from the cosy feel.
  • They've been known to sell out-of-date bottles at full price, which feels a bit unfair if you're not careful.

Me and my friend visited for a few drinks on Tuesday we ordered pints from the bar and they were disgusting tasted like soda water and line cleaner, safe to say we won’t be back we took the pints back to the bar and we were given a replacement which wasn’t any better we should have asked for a refund really but we just left and we won’t be back, avoid at all costs.

Bar is okay, location is fine, crowd is mixed. I wasn't happy that they were selling out of date bottles of Sol (Mid December) for full price, most places would stop selling or at least offer it at a reduction.
