About This Pub
Ah, The Mermaid – what a delightful little spot it is, tucked away near the canal and Wightwick Manor in Wolverhampton. I've heard from mates who've visited that it's got this timeless country pub feel, with its historic building making it ideal for a lazy afternoon or a catch-up with friends. The food really shines for the most part; folks rave about the snacks and mains like steak and burgers, which sound absolutely scrumptious, and it's clear the team puts heart into it. Pair that with a cracking bar selection and those inviting gardens or fireside nooks, and you've got a recipe for a proper good time, especially if you're bringing the dog along for the walk. On the downside, it's not all perfect – one person mentioned the chicken curry falling a bit flat, tasting dry and underwhelming, so you might want to steer clear of that and stick to the hits. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed outing, with plenty of positive vibes from the crowd, but just keep expectations in check for the odd menu miss. I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area, as long as you're up for that classic pub experience with a touch of history.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The Mermaid has that classic country pub charm, with its nearly 250-year-old building making it a real treat for a relaxing visit.
-
The food is generally spot on – think hearty favourites like sirloin steak and burgers that hit the spot, especially after a walk.
-
Staff are lovely and welcoming, always ready with a smile and great service to make you feel right at home.
-
It's brilliantly located near the canal and Wightwick Manor, perfect for a post-stroll pint or a dog-friendly stop.
-
They've got a well-stocked bar with cask ales, wines, and gins, plus lovely gardens and crackling log fires for a cosy vibe any time of year.
Cons
-
Not every dish is a winner; the chicken curry came across as dry and a bit cheap in one go, so it might pay to choose carefully.
-
It can feel like a standard pub experience at times, without anything too out of the ordinary to make it stand out from the crowd.

Staff was lovely
Will definitely have some dinner next time
😊😊we walked from the manor but they do have parking on the pub as well
Food was delicious! And drinks were reasonably priced too! Well worth a visit, and definitely worth a drive. Would be a great venues to meet friends and family. I can highly recommend stopping close by on the canal and walking up for a drink or two.
We did the extra 3 locks after Wolverhampton Flight to get down here and it was very much worth the extra effort
Great atmosphere, warm and cosy. Menu is extensive but not all options are worth the try. I'd recommend a sirloin steak in peppercorn sauce and burgers (my personal choice). Chicken curry is not very appealing and taste quite dry and cheap. Good location for a very normal dine out pub, but not impressive either.
Wonderful, been here a few times, on this occasion was having a birthday dinner with the girls. Great service, good atmosphere, food was fabulous!.
Cute place for cosy date nights too.
Booked in for Christmas day dinner, we've never done it before but it was absolutely amazing, food was great, staff were helpful and everything was so smooth.
Such a great experience.
Great place, highly recommend and will definitely come again.
