About This Pub
Ah, The Maudslay in Coventry – it's one of those pubs that really tries to be the heart of the community, you know? From what I've gathered, the staff are absolute gems, always up for a laugh and making sure everyone feels welcome, which is just what you want after a long week. They've got this great vibe with reasonably priced drinks and food that's made from fresh ingredients, plus they've thought about everyone with vegan and vegetarian choices, and it's nice to see them giving back by supporting local causes and lending out their function space. The daily offers on things like those sizzling skillets are a proper treat for a budget-friendly meal with friends. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – that parking situation can be a right pain if you forget to pop your reg in, and I've seen a few moans about unexpected kitchen closures that leave you staring at menus with no grub in sight. The food's a bit inconsistent too, sometimes spot on and other times not quite up to scratch, and there are mentions of some quirky folks around that might put you off if you're after a peaceful evening. Overall, it's a solid spot for a casual get-together, especially if you're local, but I'd say go in with your eyes open and maybe check ahead to avoid any disappointments – it's got that classic pub charm with a bit of extra sizzle, flaws and all.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready with a smile and a chat that makes you feel right at home.
-
They've got a great selection of reasonably priced beers and pub grub, including fresh ingredients and options for veggies and vegans, which is spot on for a casual night out.
-
It's a real community hub, supporting local charities and offering their function area for free to groups, which is just brilliant for getting involved.
-
Plenty of parking available, and the daily deals on food like sizzling skillets and burgers make it a wallet-friendly choice for a meal with mates.
Cons
-
There's a bit of a hassle with the parking system; forget to register your car and you might end up with a hefty fine, which can really sour the experience.
-
Food quality can be hit or miss, and we've heard tales of the kitchen closing unexpectedly for renovations without much warning, leaving you high and dry.
-
Some reviews mention odd characters hanging about, which might make it feel a tad uncomfortable at times, especially if you're after a quiet pint.
-
Recent feedback shows it's not always hitting the mark, with a lower average rating lately, so it might not be as reliable as you'd hope.

Having just received a parking fine for 60 pounds, I will not be returning. Very poor notices requesting that your car registration is required. Affordable day turns into expensive day. Easy money for some.
Visited this pub on Monday for family meal, spent £15 on a lager and 3 soft drinks sat st table and started looking at menus only for a member of staff to tell us the kitchen was closed for renovation. Surely there should be something on the website or at least the person wo was happy to serve us drinks could have mentioned that no food was available before taking order and money.
Poor customer service.
Always a busy pub. Staff are friendly, beer good and reasonably priced. Food is hit or miss. I've had the same menu at other pubs in this chain and the same food was better?
The previous manager set a high standard. Alina had more than met that high bar. She makes me laugh too quality banter for a professional and academic to enjoys should have come earlier all the seats are taken.
Your typical Sizzling pub, but with some rather strange customers.
Decent food at reasonable prices and friendly staff.
It has plenty of parking at the side and rear of the pub just remember to enter your vehicle registration into the pub's system.
