About This Pub

You know, when I think about The Masons Arms, it really stands out as one of those unassuming spots that just hits the mark for a good night out. The beer selection is spot on – they've got this ever-changing array of cask ales and lagers that keeps things fresh and exciting, and it's clear from the buzz that folks love it. The staff are an absolute delight, always up for a chat and making you feel like part of the gang, which adds to that welcoming feel. Then there's the pizzas; they're a proper winner, especially if you're settling in for some footie on the telly. On the downside, it's not the easiest place to reach if you're coming by train – that 15-minute walk might put some off, particularly on a rainy evening. Plus, the hours can look a bit muddled online, and without a website, it's not as straightforward to plan ahead. All in all, though, it's a solid choice for anyone after a friendly pub with great value and a homely charm, but just keep those little niggles in mind if you're popping by for the first time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Fantastic selection of real ales and beers – there's always something new and well-kept to try, making it a real treat for beer enthusiasts.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, creating that cosy, homely vibe where you feel right at ease from the moment you walk in.
  • Delicious pizzas that are a highlight, especially later in the evening – they smell amazing and pair perfectly with a pint while catching the footie.
  • Affordable drinks that won't break the bank, ideal for a laid-back night out without splashing the cash.
  • A warm and inviting atmosphere with friendly locals, plus fun touches like a dartboard and fruit machine to keep things entertaining.
Cons
  • It's a bit of a walk from the train station, which might not suit everyone if you're relying on public transport.
  • The operating hours listed online seem a tad confusing, so you might want to double-check before heading out to avoid any surprises.
  • No website means it's trickier to get the latest details online, so you're mostly stuck with what's on Google.

Well worth the 15 minute walk from the 🚂 for the ever changing choice of well kept cask ales. An ideal pub to watch ⚽️ particularly later in the day when the 🍕 oven cranks up.

The selection of beer is fantastic, with plenty of real ales, a wide range of lagers, and lots of spirits. The lady serving was really friendly. The pub features a dartboard and a fruit machine, and all the locals are incredibly welcoming. The pizzas are outstanding, and it’s one of the best pints of Guinness I’ve had—well worth a visit and very reasonably priced!

One of Chorley’s hidden gems. Cheap drinks, Export & Guinness £3.20, and always a warm welcome from the bar staff and landlord.

Having recently moved to the area, I am pleased to discover a good pub with a good choice of ales and beers. The influx of some of the Manchester breweries i.e. Track and Blackjack is particularly welcomed. I hope to enjoy many more. Well presented pub with good staff.
